- TV’s Hit Gay Reality Series Chris and John to the Rescue! Soon on DVD
- Alluvial Filmworks Releases Award-Nominated Comedy/Reality Show Featuring Self-Proclaimed Culture Aficionados
Alluvial Filmworks’ will release the hit comedy/reality television series Chris & John to the Rescue! featuring the heroic antics of two gay best friends on DVD February 12, 2008. With tremendous fan support since 2005, Chris & John to the Rescue! has grown from a 5-minute short series into a major ongoing series on OUTtv, Canada’s premier gay television network. The international DVD release will include seven 30-minute episodes and never before seen bonus features. Now viewers around the world can see what Canadian fans are raving about and why Chris & John to the Rescue! is going against reality shows like the Amazing Race for awards.
Finally, international audiences will be introduced to the comedy duo of Chris and John, who set out on quests in the name of helping their fellow man. The hilarious first season release includes such adventures as searching for the perfect “fag hag,” exploring the bear community, setting up an eligible gay teen bachelor on a date (with a supernatural twist), helping an aspiring Broadway diva and more. Plus, the show features a recurring set of unusual sidekicks and series staples including Scum, the fag hags and Brian Doyle. Though the team help does not always remedy a situation, it is always a comical adventure.
With other episodes including the ultimate gay-over, babysitting, and camp counselors some might easily say this reality show is a cross between The Simple Life with Paris and Nicole and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Creator and star John Simpson would say though, when the show started “it was basically just us doing what we did as kids, but with a better camera and in front of a national audience.” As the show progressed, co-star Chris Carter realized that “people needed our help desperately… whether or not we helped or made things worse is really irrelevant, we gave it our all and that’s what really counts, right?”
What really counts is that the two friends since college, Chris and John, will have a year to remember with this being the first of two DVD releases. The complete second season of Chris & John to the Rescue! is scheduled for release by Alluvial Filmworks on October 14, 2008 and will feature Chris and John’s unique sensibilities exclusively in the Cape Cod colonial town of Provincetown. Both Season 1 and Season 2 DVD releases will be jammed with bonus content including cast audio commentaries, hilarious blooper reels, TV teaser trailers and fun featurettes.
Also this year, Chris & John to the Rescue! had its series premier on here! Networks (USA) on January 4, 2008. A 1-hour special will also be broadcast on OUTtv (Canada) hosted by their friend and show regular John Doyle. Viewers will have the opportunity to see more of Chris and John’s crazy year as the two document their lives with an online photo album and online V-log. Their interactive website www.chrisandjohnonline.com acts as a companion to the series, featuring episode descriptions, star bios, a music guide, exclusive photos and videos, podcasts, an interactive forum and more.
The suggested retail price of the complete first season of Chris & John to the Rescue is $19.98 and the running time is 168 minutes. The DVD is currently available for prebooking online at 10percent.com and Amazon.com. Chris & John to the Rescue will also be available at local community retailers upon release. High-resolution imagery, publicity, a trailer and an extensive press kit with additional information about the series and its guests are available at www.villagelighthouse.com/chrisandjohn1.
