W NETWORK ORDERS SECOND HELPING OF ‘ANNA AND KRISTINA’S GROCERY BAG’

  • Hot on the heels of season one’s early success, production now underway for season two.

After only a few weeks on the air, the new W Network series Anna and Kristina’s Grocery Bag has been renewed for a full 13 episode second season, and is already in production in Vancouver, B.C.

Anna and Kristina’s Grocery Bag features Anna Wallner and Kristina Matisic, the well-known hosts from the long-running and successful Canadian series The Shopping Bags.

“In season one, we put cookbooks to the test, often with hilarious results, from the burnt honey caramels of our dessert episode to the disastrous French duck recipe,” said Anna Wallner, president, Worldwide Bag Media. “With season two, we’re expanding our repertoire and our reach, going as far as Italy to test our mettle and see if popular cookbooks live up to their promise”.

In Anna and Kristina’s Grocery Bag, the test-driving twosome focus on the kitchen and put cookbooks, ingredients, kitchen appliances and gadgets to the test – from the grocery store to the dinner plate. In each episode, Anna and Kristina try out and review recipes, ingredients, appliances and food prep techniques to see if the average cook can re-create the beautifully photographed meals.

From microwaves to macaroni, from mixing bowls to mixed greens, Anna and Kristina enlist the help of everyday people including construction workers, students, and football fans, to find the best products and ingredients. At the end of the show, a guest chef or food expert will give a final evaluation of the meal and decide if the cookbook delivers the goods.

“We are thrilled with the early success of Anna and Kristina’s Grocery Bag in the fall schedule. With this strong start, combined with our great confidence in Anna and Kristina, we are pleased to be moving forward with production on a second season,” said Vibika Bianchi, Director, Original Productions, W Network.

Helmed by some of the talents behind The Shopping Bags, the series creative team includes creators and executive producers Anna Wallner, Kristina Matisic and series producer Joyce Sawa (The Shopping Bags). Anna and Kristina’s Grocery Bag airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on W Network.

“With all the kitchen gadgets, cookbooks and specialty food items available today, consumers may find the choices overwhelming,” says Kristina Matisic, CEO of Worldwide Bag Media. “We’re continuing to put products to the test to help consumers assess where to spend their hard-earned dollars.”
