Citytv’s LESS THAN KIND STARTS PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY ON SEASON 2 IN WINNIPEG

  • Mark McKinney Returns as Show Runner Alongside Series Creators Marvin Kaye and Chris Sheasgreen
  • Tyler Johnston (Grandstar, Smallville) Joins Cast as Series Regular
  • Bruce MacDonald joins the LESS THAN KIND Team of Directors

Maury Chaykin (Adoration, Blindness), Jesse Camacho (The Trotsky, 12 and Holding), Wendel Meldrum (Queen of the Lot, Seinfeld), Benjamin Arthur (That One Night) and Nancy Sorel (Cashing In) return the tag-team neurosis that is the Blecher family. This season they welcome Tyler Johnston (Grand Star, Smallville) to the cast. Mark McKinney (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, SNL, Slings and Arrows, Kids in the Hall) once again heads up the series created by Marvin Kaye and Chris Sheasgreen, and this season Bruce MacDonald (Pontypool) joins the team of directors which include Kelly Makin (Flashpoint, Brain Candy) and James Dunnison (Robson Arms). Filming runs from March 24 to May 29, 2009 on location in Winnipeg and Season 2 premieres on Citytv Fall, 2009.

Picking up where season one left off – Sam Blecher is knocking on Death’s door, but even Death doesn’t answer when Sam Blecher (Maury Chaykin) comes knocking! Anne’s (Wendel Meldrum) anxiety is ratcheted up as she tries to be matriarch, nurse, entrepreneur and housewife. Josh (Benjamin Arthur) is torn between his duties to his family, himself, his girlfriend but mostly himself. Clara (Nancy Sorel) is the only somewhat sober, somewhat sane family member holding it together. She has become the rock that the family leans on and it’s barely affecting her personal life – who doesn’t fall asleep on a first date, before the date even starts?

This season proves that dying is easy, comedy is hard and being Sheldon is impossible! As the turmoil at home escalates Sheldon deals with further changes at school. His best friend Miriam (Brooke Palsson) is becoming more than just a friend and together they face the explosive shift from a world of innocent 14-year-old geekdom to 16-year-olds on the cusp of sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll. For Sheldon, this is a year of booze and bullies, cliques and parties and just to add a little gasoline to the fire, Sheldon and Miriam inherit a feral new partner to navigate the baffling maze of adolescence: Danny Lubbe (Tyler Johnston). Danny’s mission in life is to torture his father, Mr. Lubbe (Ross McMillan) who up until a few weeks ago was unaware of his existence.

I love this show. i started watching it last year after a couple of friends of mind recommended it. It’s great. I love the fact that it is set in Canada. I think the cast is great. It’s a good, solid funny show with an endearing feel and I look forward to the next season.

thanks for the review and ifo.

Your show is one of the very few weekly sitcoms that is truly worth watching. The writing is very clever, the dysfunctional characters with their neuroticism and personality disorders, and are fun. The character of Josh played by Benjamin Arthur is one of my favorites. I can’t believe that he grew up in Kitimat and that he loves Winnepeg. I can’t wait to see what next season has to offer.

I love Less Than Kind. I felt like it was my little secret; a show that I was the only one watching. Now I am telling all my friends about it. Really. It is one of the only comedies that I laugh out loud at. I finally got my girlfriend to watch it with me and she is hooked also. I look forward to season two. I just hope City TV give this series the promotion that it deserves. I know they are rerunning it on Mondays and Wednesday, I am just wondering when season two airs. Any answers?

I absolutely love this show. It is sooooo funny. Very few shows are this hilarious. I am so happy to hear, that the show is returning for season two. The writing is unbelievable. The subject matter is so unique. And better than anything, it’s Canadian!! Who says Canadian program isn’t worth watching. Keep up the great work!!

So happy this is back! I’m a British ex-pat living in Canada and have to say this is the funniest comedy I’ve ever seen.

Britain is known for its comedy, but even we don’t have anything like Less Than Kind, it’s so low-key, so brilliantly under-stated. I’ll be buying a few copies for folks back in the old country.

Good humour at the sametime entertaining. Love the fact their is NO candid laughter prompting you to find something funny in what is clearly a very lame line.

Nice to see an opposite to Brooke in the new season, Madison. She adds a bit of flavour.
    The show is clearly real!
