Michael Seater Guest Stars in Murdoch Mysteries Wednesday, April15 on Citytv
Michael Seater (Life With Derek) stars as ‘James Gillies,’ a curious physics student, in the Murdoch Mysteries episode ‘Big Murder on Campus,’ premiering Wednesday, April 15th at 10pm (8pm CT/MT) on Citytv.
Physics Professor Samuel Bennett is killed by a gunshot from the quad below his window. He had been talking on the phone when he was murdered; a well-placed telescope suggests he was lured to the window by his killer. Although students Robert Perry (Marc Bendavid) and James Gillies (Michael Seater) claim Bennett was well-liked by students and teachers alike, the most obvious suspect is Professor Godfrey (Ted Atherton) who had reportedly lost to Bennett in the bid for department head. And certainly it would have taken a physicist to dream up the brilliant scheme, let alone execute it. Godfrey maintains his innocence, but new evidence keeps pointing to him – until Crabtree (Jonny Harris) spots something in a window across the quad that puts a whole new, and unexpected, spin on the case.
Set in 1895 Toronto, Murdoch Mysteries explores the intriguing world of William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a handsome young detective using radical forensic techniques, like fingerprinting and trace evidence, to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders.

I went to France for ten days, thus missing a Murdoch episode. When I left, Murdoch and Dr. Ogden had just come from consummating their relationship. When I got back, things were more than a little chilly between them.
If someone will be kind enough to send me a sketch of the episode I missed, I promise never to go to France again during the Murdoch season.

Murdoch was investigating the death of a young woman who died from a bleed out. It turned out she was pregnant and had taken a dosage of a substance to induce an abortion. The pennyroyal in this caused liver failure and bleeding. Murdoch investigated various physicians rumoured to perform abortions, including a friend of Dr. Julia Ogden. He sees Dr. Ogden and this fellow embracing and assumes they are more than friends. Dr. Ogden later reveals to Murdoch that she had an abortion when she was a student and that this friend performed it for her, saving her life. She expresses no regret and Murdoch feels torn and unsure how to continue the relationship (being a staunch Catholic and policeman).
Thus, the frostiness you observed. You are forgiven for leaving Canada.
