- BATTLE OF THE BLADES and RON JAMES SHOW headline fall schedule
CBC Television today announced its 2009/2010 Arts & Entertainment and Factual prime-time programming, featuring two new comedies, a one-hour comedy-drama and two reality-based series, in addition to popular returning series.
Fall Premieres
BATTLE OF THE BLADES is an elimination-style challenge that teams up Canada’s top figure skaters with this country’s most daring and versatile hockey stars to compete against one another each week in a glitzy pairs figure skating performance.
THE RON JAMES SHOW showcases the talents of renowned comedian Ron James and his always entertaining, poetically charged observations on life in the modern world.
CANADA’S SUPER SPELLER, hosted by Evan Solomon, is a spelling game show/ elimination series that sees 12 young finalists vie for the crown of Canada’s Super Speller.

I think the CBC should have thought twice about the cancellation of ,in my opinion one of the best Canadian drama series’ of all time, Wild Roses. How come when other series’ have problems with ratings, they put it on a different night, but with Wild Roses, which they knew was having rating problems, they kept airing it on the most competitive night on t.v.?
April 25th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Totally agree about Wild Roses. This would have been a show that could have easily crossed over into the US market. They played with the nights that Being Erica was shown, and it is now on Soapnet in the US and doing well. They missed a huge opportunity.
April 25th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
I am in total agreement. Wild Roses was just getting its legs. Ratings were great considering it was up against the top show on television. A very bad decision, talented cast, great looking show with lots of great plot twists. Devastating to a very loyal Canadian wide fan base. The Americans would have loved it too.
April 26th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Wild Roses was a great show I hope CBC changes there minds!!!!
April 26th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Please bring Wild Roses back. I was actually thinking the CBC was worth watching for the first time in my life.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:56 pm
It’s official….I’ll no longer be watching CBC
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:16 pm
I really hope CBC regains their senses and decides to bring back Wild Roses. It was such a great show and I truly feel devastated that it will not be returning. There is nothing worse that watching a tv show every week for 13 weeks and actually looking forward to it and then discovering the rug has been pulled out from under your feet! I have been a faithfull CBC watcher for years but now I feel they are stupid and do not care about their viewers. They choose to keep tired shows like 22 Minutes and axe a great program like Wild Roses. Stupid move!
May 5th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
i can believe they keep little mosque and cancel wild roses…….shame
May 11th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
I am so glad Being Erica will return…I loved that show and never missed an episode!
May 19th, 2009 at 11:33 am
I never watched CBC until Wild Roses came along. I guess I never watch it again.
May 20th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Are they stupid? Why would they cancel Wild Roses. It was actually the first great Canadian drama series that I ever watched. I can’t believe they are keeping shows like this Hour has 22 minutes and bringing shows like Battle of the Blades (a figure skating competition..now that is worth tuning into!) And they wonder why people don’t watch CBC…..
May 20th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
CBC is losing viewers. Gone from stellar shows 2 years ago to what THEY think sells. So the US is 1season ahead of us in the Tudors. We lost Doctor Who and Torchwood. Who makes these decisions. Top selling box sets of DVDs for all 3 and yet local station cuts it. Too bad. Lost 5 more viewers to US networks.
May 24th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
will cbc please tell me why wild roses was cancelled
May 24th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
You could try emailing the CBC.
May 25th, 2009 at 4:21 am
I agree that CBC was finally worth watching with Wild Roses on! It became a weekly ritual that we’d put the kids to bed early and wait anxiously to hear the “Wooo-Hoooo!” I loved that show and was ticked when the season finale came too soon. It was a show that both my husband and I both enjoyed, and am very sad to hear it is done. Whoever gets to make these decisions should be fired cuz they suck!
May 25th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Well I guess I don’t have to wonder any more when Wild Roses will air again. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Just really got into the show to find out some jackass canceled a great where my husband and I would like to watch the same show and enjoyed it and waiting and wondering what would happen this year, well I guess all of us who were waiting don’t have to wait any more because they will replace it with some crappy show and who wants to see that any way . We want Wild Roses back instead
June 10th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
I just found out today that Wild Roses was canceled and I am floored. My husband and I finally found a show that we both enjoyed and could watch together and CBC cans it. I have say that until Heartland, Flashpoint and then Wild Roses you wouldn’t catch me watching Canadian television. Even my mother in law was watching Wild Roses. I think that CBC has made a huge mistake and they should rethink bring Wild Roses back. To keep shows like Little Mosque and Being Erica and cancel a true canadian show like Wild Roses is really disapointing. Wild Roses was the first Canadian adult drama that was worth watching. What a shame. I will not support a network that does not provide what it’s vieing audience is looking for, ENTERTAINMENT!!!
June 17th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
I finally had the whole family tuned in together for Wild Roses. Just like in the Dallas days.
CBC, you don’t have much left to offer, ah, now nothing to offer. You had my family back……..for a moment.
June 22nd, 2009 at 9:15 am
CBC – YOUR FOOLS TO NOT RENEW WILD ROSES!!! I hope another station renews the season – and you’re left in the dust!
WILD ROSES IS THE BEST SHOW EVER!!! CBC – cancel some hockey and put WILD ROSES BACK ON THE AIR!!
June 30th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
hopefully they can renew the Dr.who series, from where they left off, season 4 was great, I wonder what season 5 will be like. I do have some stuff about season 5 now but I’ll keep looking in Britain and Canada for it, see ya!
July 2nd, 2009 at 5:43 pm
STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD………………………….CBC……….ONLY THING THEY HAD GOING FOR THEM
July 5th, 2009 at 4:22 am
WILD ROSES>>>>>>>>>The best Canadian show on TV. CBC just when you shock me with a show that actually was really good with a great cast. You go and cancel it, way to go! Who makes these decisions? It reminds me off that hole in the wall resturant that actually has a really good sandwich. Way to stop selling the sandwich CBC…DUMB MOVE..But not surprising coming from CBC….Cause you have great programs on like Steven and Chris (tips on food and home decor)…are you kidding me?
COME ON!!!!!!
July 8th, 2009 at 9:55 am
It’s jsut funny to me that a lot of the Canadian population, well television viewers in general are getting away from the “reality television” nonsense that is on the tube, and once again another show on the CBC is being pulled? An actual substantial, television show that is based in Canada about Canadians. It’s just so sad when you turn on the television and you become inthrawled in these programs (JPOD being another) that are about your country about your fellow Canadians and it gets the shaft. I mean I’m not a broadcaster by any means and for as much as i don’t know how it all works, it would be nice just this one time for the CBC to listen to it’s viewers and perhaps if that day were to come they wouldn’t have as many issues as they do at this very moment. Bring the Canadian viewers back to Canadian programming. This is why I love CTV so much, Flashpoint, the Listener, I love tuning into a Canadian channel and watching canadian programing, dramas and comedies how great is that?
July 8th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
WILD ROSES: was a great series. I was so disappointed when it was cancelled. CBC left fans hanging by cancelling the show and now they are repeating the series only to rub salt in the wound. CBC, I hope you change your mind…
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:20 pm
BOOO…Wild Roses is a great show. I am sad and also confused as to why the cut short series is being replayed over the summer.
July 24th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Wild Roses was a great show, find a way to make it come back.
July 28th, 2009 at 9:25 am
I am very disappointed with CBC. I couldn’t wait for Wild Roses to come back on, then I find out that is has been canceled. Only to be replaced with a Reality show…woohoo…I think there is enough Reality shows why do we need more. I hope they change there mind.
August 10th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
UNBELIEVABLE! Who is the idiot that cancelled Wild Roses? Does he think all Canadians like stupid sitcoms instead of a good drama show. Well I guess I will be watching a U.S. station again this year. I hope whoever made this decision loses their job!
August 13th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
I really enjoyed “Wild Roses” and was looking forward to seeing it in the Fall. The finale was good and I needed to know what happened. Its sad that it was cancelled. It was the best series to come out of CBC = bring it back = we need shows like this and makes me proud it was on CBC.
August 18th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
This sucks I was so looking forward to Wild Roses this season. i am very disappointed! I love to watch Canadian TV and thought this show was right on with the big USA networks.
August 25th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Wild Roses was a great show we looked forward to every week along with Heartland. CBC should reconsider cancelling Wild Roses. It was refeshing to have a decent Canadian drama to watch in lieu pf all the Hollywood stuff we get i prime time!
September 2nd, 2009 at 12:41 pm
I was really looking forward to this season of Wild Roses. I was patiently waiting to find out what happened after the explosion! CBC had a good show going and they killed it! Way to go CBC! People always complaining about the lack of Canadian content and here was a good Canadian show and it’s been pulled off the air. Very disappointing!
September 3rd, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Bring back Wild Roses
September 3rd, 2009 at 6:28 pm
My husband was asking me when Wild Roses was coming back on so decided to look online. I really am NOT happy to see it has been cancelled, we really enjoyed watching it together on Tuesday evenings. :(
September 10th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
I am in shock! Wild Roses was/is a wonderful program! I am from Calgary and now live in Victoria, BC – I feel very connected to this show! WTF!!!!!??? First Hatching, Matching and Dispatching…… how do I get my voice heard?
September 12th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
I cannot believe this. I have looked forward to the new season all summer. This show was right up there with Grey’s and Desperate Housewives. Idiots. So now we have to watch So you think you can Dance????????????
CBC do you think you can think???????????????????????lWill not be watching anything on CBC
September 13th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
How can they cancel Wild Roses. This is a program that caught my attention whole heartedly I absolutely love this program and now they have buggared up my whole week. I have been waiting all summer for the new season to begin and now this.I don’t watch Being Erca I think that show is rediculous but they cancel the show with actual entertainment value. BOO to CBC for this idiotic decision. Bring back WILD ROSES!!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Really stupid for not bringing back Wild Roses. It was getting to be a good show and was looking forward to the new season. Dallas made it why not Wild Roses….Stupid stupid stupid.
September 16th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Can’t believe Wild Roses has been cancelled! Was the only thing worth watching on CBC. I love that the show was Canadian, but in all honesty, would still love it if it was American. Great cast, storylines etc etc etc. Only show that the whole family from kids to grandparents all loved! Even my husband, who only watches Discovery and Hunting Channel, loved to watch. Says it reminds him of “Dallas” in the good ole days! BRING IT BACK!
September 17th, 2009 at 5:46 am
I just found out Wild Roses was cancelled, I can’t beleive it. I was so looking forward to the new season as the season finale left me wondering so now I guess I just have to wonder. CBC you are making a big mistake by taking one of the best shows off the air, there are so many reality shows that this was a pleasure to watch.
September 19th, 2009 at 5:38 am
I have been waiting and waiting for Wild Roses to start up this Fall, only to learn it has been cancelled. How many Canadian shows have held my interest? ONE! And it was Wild Roses. You should have changed the night. I hope the USA picks it up.
September 21st, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Bring back Wild Roses. I don’t watch Being Erica and you can cancel Steven and Chris… I hate watching a bunch of yo yos!!! No wonder we have to watch American shows because CBC cancels our good ones and leaves crappy ones on for us to watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 21st, 2009 at 5:26 pm
Cancelling Wild Roses was in poor judgement. This show had people glued to the TV like Dallas did years ago. Those that cancelled this series make Canadians look stupid.
September 24th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Well I was looking forward to Wild Roses this Sept, instead very disappointed that it was cancelled.
If CBC were having viewing problems why not move the program to Friday nights? Really the only show worth
watching on CBC. I was glued to the TV when it came on, like Dallas the first year was not that great but the second
year and the next 10 years were super great. I really think you should bring back Wild Roses I want to know what happened after the explosion.
October 4th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
I can’t believe that Wild Roses was cancelled. I was so looking forward to a new season of this drama. This was one of the best Canadian programs that I truly enjoyed – it had all the good stuff needed to keep you guessing from week to week. I hope that CBC changes its mind because Wild Roses was up there with Heartland.
October 6th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
I have been waiting with baited breath for the Wild Roses return and what do I find out, CBC cancelled it.
I cannot believe it, I think CBC STINKS!
I am so dissapointed. That’s Canadian T.V. for ya,they actually put a great Canadian show on then cancel it, then bonbard us with CRUD.
I won’t be watching CBC again, the only reason I watched CBC to start with was for the Wild Roses, BOO CBC, I am mentaly throwing rotten eggs your way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 6th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
I can not believe that you cancelled this great series. I was waiting to find out what happened and who servived the explosion. Well if you ask me we have far too many reality shows on TV and you finally got a good family show that could be watched by young and old and you “CANCELLED IT”. All you keep hearing on the news is how other shows are bad influences on children (Simpson’s with the language, King of the Hill) and when you finally get a good show you dump it.
All I can say is BRING IT BACK.
October 8th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Wild Roses was the best show ever…I am very disapointed CBC cancelled. Hope you bring it back…
October 11th, 2009 at 11:51 am
I can’t believe that the brainless at CBC have gone and done it again.”What were you guys not thinking?” Wild Roses went hand in hand with Heartland. You guys have the nerve to wonder why local television is in trouble, all the while blaming it on the big cable giants. Figure it out brain waves. If you have programming the audience likes, you will survive to see another day. But no , let’s put all these stupid reality shows on instead ( probably 95% of the populace are sick of). If you go down, it will be of your own doing and you will have nobody to blame but yourselves !!!
October 16th, 2009 at 11:32 am
what were you thinking when you pulled wild roses from the lineup? it was the best show on cbc. please try to get it back. thank you
November 22nd, 2009 at 11:20 am
Wild Roses not being renewed? Why am I not surprised?! Every bloody time C.B.C. has a good program, they find an excuse to terminate it. That seems to be their M.O.! I had promised myself long ago, never to watch any new C.B.C. shows, this time I intend to keep that promise!
November 27th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
I think the CBC should have thought twice about the cancellation of one of the best Canadian shows… “Wild Roses”. Why is it that all the best shows are cancelled, with barely a chance to get going? Wild Roses was a far better show than a lot of the other garbage that is on television nowadays. The same thing happened with “Men in Trees” another really good Canadian television series. All the good ones disappear and we have to put up with watching garbage or switching channels!
November 27th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Just to clarify – Men in Trees was shot in Vancouver but it was an American show.
December 15th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Really disappointed about the cancellation of Wild Roses. They certainly left us hanging with the final episod and obviously the public wants the show back. what can we do to make this happen?
December 26th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
Very disappointed my husband and I watched this show every week. It was one of the best shows on and now it has been cancelled. There is far to many reality shows on tv gets to be to much. Canada finally makes a good show and it gets cancelled. Battle of the blades is boring you can only have so many dancing shows whether it is on a dance floor or ice. Cant believe that wild roses was replaced with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE BRING THIS SHOW BACK.
January 1st, 2010 at 7:55 pm
Looking forward to The Republic of Doyle. This production gave much work to the folks of St. John’s, and it was a blast being a part of this production. I was just background but heh it was so much fun!
January 4th, 2010 at 4:44 pm
Wild Roses is the best show in a long time that CBC has produced. Is there a problem that every time the public gets hooked on an excellent show it is almost certainly cancelled. My husband & I waited all fall season with much anticipation for the 2nd season of this great show and we were quite upset it was cancelled.
Please bring back Wild Roses with the same characters & continue where you left off. All of us fans out in TV land would much appreciate it if you listened to us for once.
tks
January 8th, 2010 at 7:23 pm
myself with alot of other people, as i can see are very upset about the cancellation of wild roses. I would like to know that in this day and why the public does not have a say i what we want to watch! wild roses was right up there with heartland. I can’t believe that such shows as 18 to life will beet out wild roses. all this crap for t.v. is sicking…..We would like t.v. with heart . If cbc continues to air all this crap , i can see them losing lots of viewers. They should be trying to compete with american t.v..
Cbc makes canadians look like a bunch of idiots with there shows like 18 and over, and the already to many comedy shows. we loved watching wild roses, it keep us waiting for week. to see what was going on next. And what a way to stop it with the oil rig blowing up……… Not fair to your viewers CBC….Not well done at all. we would like to see it back on with the same actors. where it left off. Why not try a second season? Is CBC worried they were wrong . let the viewers decide. We as viewers would like to be asked what we like not just one person…….. Please bring back. I’m sick of all the comedy t.v. thanks
January 9th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
You canceled the best show ever
January 23rd, 2010 at 4:13 pm
you have realy done it this time . the best show ever and you cancelled it. i have been waiting since last spring to find out what happened the least you could have done was end the show properly.it was the best show on canadian tv.bring it back.
January 31st, 2010 at 6:14 pm
Extremely Disappointing,
Canada finally comes out with a GREAT weekly TV show and the CBC can’t figure out dates, times and how to Market the show to give it a chance. Very sad to see the CBC wouldn’t go to the people to help make some decisoins to see what the people want to watch. Thanks CBC for helping me make the decision to elliminate your channel from my TV set.
February 1st, 2010 at 10:29 pm
This was a great show and I really enjoyed it. What’s the matter with CBC – did the oil and gas companies complain loudly or what? Awesome show – great characters and actresses and actors. Compelling writing. Bring it back on the air.
Thanks
