It’s Almost Time: Who Will Be The Next Star?

After months of preparation, the time has come to crown one of the six finalists from the hit talent series The Next Star. Corus Entertainment’s YTV, Tricon Films & Television and Universal Music Canada invite fans to catch this suspense-filled 90-minute season finale live from Canada’s Wonderland on Sunday, September 27 at 7 p.m.

Along with headline performances by Universal Music Canada acts such as Canadian rising-star Justin Bieber and singer-songwriter FeFe Dobson, fans can also expect to enjoy the top six contestants singing their own single, written during the series.

This year’s talented group includes 14 year-old Rayandra from Mississauga, Ontario, known for her bubbly personality and pop/gospel inspired music; 15 year-old Darrelyne from The Pas, Manitoba, who writes her own country tunes but lives for heavy metal; 15 year-old Tianda from Fraser Lake, British Columbia, who loves creating original music; 15 year-old Brock from Richmond, British Columbia, known for his unique style; 14 year-old Wren from Halifax, Novia Scotia who entertains audiences with her powerful voice; and 15 year-old Lizz from Mississauga, Ontario, known for her smooth and original sound.

Viewers have been text messaging and visiting www.YTV.com to cast their votes for their favourite performer. Voting will close on Sunday, September 27 at 7 p.m. immediately before the live finale. The finalist with the most votes becomes The Next Star and will receive the coveted prize package valued at over $35,000 CDN, which includes: Studio time at Metalworks Studios, where Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera and Prince have recorded, Universal Music Canada will distribute and release the winner’s song and two other songs that they record, a Canadian Music Week showcase where they will debut new songs for industry movers and shakers, as well as a J-45 Standard Acoustic Guitar and an Epiphone Valve Jr. Combo Amp from Gibson Guitar.

Over the past summer, every Friday at 6 p.m. on YTV, The Next Star has followed these young aspiring singers as they were guided by professionals on how to take-on different aspects of the music industry. Host Adamo Ruggiero (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and judges Suzie McNeil, Christopher Ward and Steve Cranwell, along with other industry mentors, have all served to lead the young talent throughout their journey.

To help viewers decide their final vote, YTV will be giving fans two chances to catch earlier episodes from this season. Back-to-back episodes will air on Saturday, September 26 beginning at 12 p.m. and on Sunday, September 27 beginning at 12 p.m.

Fans of The Next Star can visit www.YTV.com for information on discounted park tickets and entry to the live show at Canada’s Wonderland.

The Next Star Season 2 CD will be available in music stores and on iTunes Tuesday, September 22, featuring songs from The Next Star. Plus, fans can also check out an exclusive compilation video of the six singles beginning Tuesday, September 29 on iTunes.
