Tianda wins The Next Star

AFTER OVER ONE MILLION VOTES CANADA CHOOSES TIANDA FROM FRASER LAKE, BC TO BE THE NEXT STAR

After a thrilling finale, broadcast live from Canada’s Wonderland, Corus Entertainment’s YTV congratulates 15 year-old Tianda from Fraser Lake, BC who takes the title of The Next Star. With over one million votes cast via online and text message, host Adamo Ruggiero announced the winner in front of a packed live audience.

The audience went crazy as Universal Music acts Justin Bieber and singer-songwriter FeFe Dobson took to the stage to perform for screaming fans. The live programming event also featured performances by each of the six finalists, who sang the singles they wrote during the series as well as an outstanding group performance that got the whole crowd onto their feet.

As the winner, Tianda will record songs to be distributed by Universal Music Canada at Metalworks Studios, where Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera and Prince have recorded. Topping it all off, Tianda will debut her tracks at a Canadian Music Week showcase for industry movers and shakers, as well as receive a J-45 Standard Acoustic Guitar and an Epiphone Valve Jr. Combo Amp from Gibson Guitar. This coveted prize package is valued at $35,000 CDN.

Other star-studded guests who attended the finale included: YTV’s host Carlos, host of The Zone, comedians Alana Johnston, Kayla Lorette and Hannah Hogan from That’s So Weird! and Melinda Shankar, Marline Yan and Dylan Everett from YTV’s newest live action comedy How to be Indie launching on Friday, October 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Over the past summer, every Friday at 6 p.m. on YTV, The Next Star has followed these young aspiring singers as they were guided by professionals on how to take-on different aspects of the music industry. Host Adamo Ruggiero and judges Suzie McNeil, Christopher Ward and Steve Cranwell, along with other industry mentors, have all served to lead the young talent throughout their journey.

The Next Star Season 2 CD is available in music stores across Canada. On Tuesday, September 29, fans can visit iTunes for the exclusive deluxe version of the CD with video!
