In a Masonic Temple, Victor Bernard (Kevin Dennis) drops dead during his initiation ceremony. Witnessing the suspicious death are fellow Masons Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) and Crabtree (Jonny Harris). They have to pull rank to convince their fellow members to allow Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a catholic, and Ogden (Hélène Joy), a woman, into the temple to conduct their investigation of a closed and secretive membership which includes many of the city’s movers and shakers. As the investigation proceeds, Ogden discovers that Victor Bernard harboured a stunning secret that may have been led to his murder. Murdoch ultimately discovers the identity of the killer and the tragic irony that led to Bernard’s death.

  1. I think this was the worst episode so far. The induction ceremony was over the top. Drinking wine from a human skull? Peanut allergy? Even Brackenreid says he finds that odd given that peanuts weren’t readily available back then. Women in drag so that they could smoke cigars? The wife of a prominent businessman has a “relationship” with another woman who dresses as man because her husband belongs to too many male-only clubs? The Freemason scenes were rather silly and pointless. Ogden infiltrates the women’s basketball team. Ho hum. Crabtree holds a higher rank than Brackenreid as a Freemason? Lots of explanations on that one. Yawn. Even Murdoch looked and sounded bored by it all. Who wrote this trite episode?
