National Casting For Canada’s Next Culinary Star Open Now Until June 22

Casting Details and Applications Available at www.topchefcanada.ca

Shaw Media today announced the renewal of its number one Food Network Canada series, Top Chef Canada, for a second season. A national casting call for Canada’s next culinary star has begun, with applications available at www.topchefcanada.ca. The deadline for submitting applications is June 22, 2011.

The first season of the Canadian adaptation of the international smash hit premiered in April, 2011 to unprecedented audience numbers for a single play with 381,700 (2+) and 257,100 (A25-54), making it the highest-rated Canadian original premiere in Food Network Canada’s history as well as the highest-rated premiere this broadcast year in both the 2+ and A25-54 demographic on Food Network. After seven weeks on air, Top Chef Canada is rated the number one series in Food Network’s history.

Shaw Media will continue to work with Canadian production powerhouse, Insight Productions, for the second season, which will premiere in 2012 exclusively on Food Network Canada. Internationally revered chef and restaurateur Mark McEwan and celebrated restaurateur Shereen Arazm will return as Head Judge and Resident Judge respectively. The series’ much-loved host, Los Angeles-based Thea Andrews, will be missed this season as she and her husband are expecting their second child. As such, a new host for season two will be announced in the coming weeks.

The country’s best and brightest up-and-coming culinary stars, aged 19 years and older, are encouraged to visit www.topchefcanada.ca to download the application form. In addition to the online form, applicants must create a short video of themselves in action, showing off their cooking ability and on-camera personality. Applicants will be selected to compete for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned Canada’s next Top Chef.

Staying true to the original show format, Top Chef Canada challenges 16 competitors’ culinary, customer service, management and teamwork skills to see who can cut it as Canada’s Top Chef, taking home the grand prize including $100,000. The intensity builds each week as the competitors vie for their shot at stardom and avoid elimination.

All information on how to apply to be on Top Chef Canada is now available at www.topchefcanada.ca. Casting is currently open and runs until June 22, 2011.

Viewers can continue watching the first season of Top Chef Canada on Food Network Canada Mondays at 9 pm ET/10 pm PT, with encore presentations Saturdays at 7 pm ET/PT. Canada’s inaugural Top Chef will be crowned in the season finale airing Monday, July 4th at 9pm ET/10pm PT on Food Network Canada.
