After weeks of mastering their sound, style and star moves, the moment has arrived for one of the Top 6 finalists to be announced as The Next Star. Corus Entertainment’s YTV, Tricon Films & Television and Warner Music Canada invite fans to catch the 90-minute season finale of The Next Star, broadcast live from Canada’s Wonderland on Sunday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
The finale will feature performances by special guests Allstar Weekend, Kay and newly signed Warner Music artist Victoria Duffield (a finalist from Season 3 of The Next Star). The Top 6 will also take to the stage to perform their original singles, written and recorded with the help of some of Canada’s top music producers, and will also perform an original work composed by the group. The Next Star Season 4 compilation album features these original songs, as well as Season 3 winner Diego Gomes’ second single, “Tonight We’re On Fire”, and will be available in music stores and on iTunes beginning September 20.
Season 4’s talented group of young singers includes 13-year-old April from Winnipeg, Manitoba, a vocal powerhouse known for her confident stage presence; 12-year-old Charlie from Calgary, Alberta, a spunky, energetic performer with a voice – and maturity – beyond her years; 15-year-old JD from Vineland, Ontario, a pop-rocker always seen with a guitar in tow; 15-year-old Milly from Longueuil, Quebec, a YouTube sensation with a song that will bring audiences to their feet; 12 year-old Parker from Duncan, British Columbia, the bubbly pop singer whose charm makes him stand out in the crowds; and 15-year-old Shania from Moncton, New Brunswick, a country star in the making whose powerful voice and big heart make her a fan favourite! All six Next Star hopefuls will be on-hand from 1-2 p.m. at Canada’s Wonderland for an autograph session.
Viewers are encouraged to cast their unlimited votes for their favourite finalist via text message or by visiting YTV.com until Sunday, September 25 at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT). The finalist with the most viewer votes will be named The Next Star and take home a prize package which includes the Kool-Aid Jammers Ultimate Jam Space, featuring a 15” Macbook Pro, professional recording software and gear, a Songwriter Deluxe courtesy of Gibson Guitar, and a distribution deal with Warner Music Canada.
Catch up on all of Season 4 with back-to-back episodes on YTV on Saturday, September 24 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, September 25 from 12 p.m. until the live finale at 7 p.m.
About this year’s special guests:
Hailing from San Diego, Allstar Weekend are Zachary Porter, Cameron Quiseng and Michael Martinez. They released their first EP Suddenly back in July 2010. They followed the EP with their first full length album Suddenly Yours in October 2010. The band produced the hit “Dance Forever”, which was a fan favourite from the EP Suddenly. The 11-track debut album Suddenly Yours produced the hits “A Different Side of Me,” “The Weekend” and “Come Down with Love.” The band’s upcoming sophomore album All the Way will be released on September 27, 2011. The first single from the new album “Blame It On September”, is currently out now. For all up to date info on Allstar Weekend, please visit – www.allstarweekendrocks.com
Emotional. Crazy. Soulful. Throwback. Electric. Ask emerging superstar Kay to list five adjectives that best sum up her sound, and she immediately ticks off those disparate yet captivating words. Which is coincidental because while “emotional, crazy, soulful, throwback” and “electric” do indeed conjure Kay’s giddy, hiphop-goosed pop, they also serve as handy sub-headlines for a career trajectory that’s zoomed from pastoral Nova Scotia to Los Angeles via London and Vancouver in just a few years, making believers out of tastemakers like DJ Tiësto and OneRepublic songwriter/producer Ryan Tedder along the way.
Victoria Duffield, a Top 6 finalist from the third season of The Next Star, is not afraid of being in the spotlight, as proven by her spirited debut single through Warner Music, “Shut Up and Dance.” The track from Victoria – the singer, dancer and actor from Abbotsford, British Columbia – is a brazen dancefloor anthem. “I want people to listen to the song and get lost in it,” she says. “I want to share my love of dance through songs that people can connect with, through both the lyrics and the beats that can’t help but make you want to dance.”
About the host and judges:
Over the past four seasons, host Adamo Ruggiero (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has received multiple Gemini nominations for his work on The Next Star. Award-winning singer, Suzie McNeil, released her latest single “Drama Queen” in February as a preview to her highly anticipated fourth album launching later this year. JUNO Award-winning composer and MuchMusic’s first VJ, Christopher Ward, has written a number of chart-topping singles including Black Velvet for Alannah Myles and most recently penned songs for Cirque du Soleil’s Banana Shpeel. With 23 years’ experience in music marketing under his belt, Steve Cranwell sure knows what it takes to make a star. Just ask Kanye West, Rihanna, Shania Twain or Sarah Harmer, a few of the many sensations Steve worked with during his tenure at Universal Music Canada.
