Priestley makes the role work for him, as the unlikeable hustler who is actually kind of likeable as he is surrounded by a motley cast of characters who actually like him despite the horrible barbs that fly back and forth between them all. Ernie Grunwald as his conscience works pretty well as his straight man and the entire cast has some genuine charm and do manage to generate some laughs, however some are genuine and some are a little forced.
