From a media release:

RENOWNED CANADIAN STAR AND FOOD EXPERT CARLO ROTA TO HOST CBC’S NEW CULINARY COMPETITION SERIES RECIPE TO RICHES

  • Former Little Mosque on the Prairie star, Carlo Rota signs on to host the hit Canadian series RECIPE TO RICHES

Exclusively on CBC this winter, hit culinary competition series RECIPE TO RICHES welcomes Canadian actor and food-lover Carlo Rota as the new host of the weekly Canadian cooking competition.

Renowned for his role on CBC’s breakout series Little Mosque on the Prairie and as host of The Great Canadian Food Show, along with successful stints on international hits 24 and Nikita, Rota returns to his culinary roots to help find an original home-cooked recipe that will whet the nations’ appetite.

As a British born Canadian, Carlo Rota developed a love of fine food early on in life from his father Dante Rota, an internationally renowned chef. Growing up, Rota travelled the globe as his father honed his craft around the world before settling in Toronto. Rota initially followed in his father’s footsteps, working in the culinary industry, before abruptly deciding to switch careers and pursue his long-time passion for acting. Before long he’d built a robust resumé, boasting roles on international hit television series and films including Little Mosque on the Prairie, 24, Nikita, Queer as Folk and Boondock Saints. Rota went on to parlay his industry experience and love of haute cuisine into a food-based series, as host of The Great Canadian Food Show, which earned him a prestigious nomination for the James Beard Award for excellence in culinary journalism. Now Rota joins CBC to host the hit series RECIPE TO RICHES, where he will help amateur cooks turn their original home-cooked recipes into the next big food product in Canada.

Reality culinary competition RECIPE TO RICHES aims to discover the best of the best in Canadian food development, inviting amateur Canadian home-cooks to create and share their original favourite personal recipes with the country. Each episode features a different food category with home cooks competing for a weekly $25,000 prize and the opportunity to move on to compete in the series finale — for the grand prize of $250,000. Each category winner’s recipe will be available across the country as a President`s Choice® brand product.

RECIPE TO RICHES is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with CBC. The six-episode series will air in the winter of 2014. Open calls will take place this summer in select Loblaw banner store locations in cities across Canada, from June 22 to July 13.
