  1. Is Hard Rock Medical considered a 2013 show ? I know it aired on TVO in Ontario in 2013 but not nationally on APTN until 2014. For the record, my favourite 10 Canadian shows that I watched this past year were Orphan Black, Vikings, Hard Rock Medical, Heartland, Degrassi, Blackstone, Masterchef Canada, Mohawk Girls, Remedy and Republic of Doyle.

    1. It’s interesting to see Mohawk Girls get so many votes. While it lacks finesse, I actually find it the funniest Canadian comedy on tv and I really enjoy it. That lobster parody the other night was particularly hilarious.

    2. I addressed this a few months ago. Hard Rock Medical should be in your titles as a Canadian Show. They have finished taping season 2 and there is no reason they are not on this site.

  2. dammit I didn’t see Strange Empire before I hit the vote button – vote for it so it doesn’t get cancelled.

  3. Why didn’t Tiny Plastic Men make this list? (CSA award nominee for Best Comedy Series, and Banff Rockies Nominee for Best Comedy Program in 2014)

  4. Too many top good shows to choose from. I love the crossover stars of Lost girl and the Listener and Murdoch Mysteries but couldn’t put them all in the top 3 because Haven is my top choice

  5. Devoted to Clone Club, but honestly, many of my favorite Canadian shows are cartoons. Lots of comedy genius there.

  6. Artic Air was one of the best shows CBC ever produced. Exciting, funny, innteresting and edge of your seat dramatic but the network cancelled it. Too bad

    1. I totally agree! I loved Arctic Air. I even had my DVR set to record so I didn’t miss any new episodes. Sad, so sad! :( I do love Murdoch Mysteries, Rick Mercer Report , Amazing Race Canada, Dragon’s Den and Masterchef Canada too.

    2. Not only Arctic Air, but the series it was based upon, Ice Pilots NWT, all about Buffalo Airlines.

  7. I had a bit of trouble picking a 3rd since several of the shows there I have only casually watched 1 or 2 eps..

Continuum & Motive were the etched in stone picks.
Murdoch Mysteries, Strange Empire & The Listener all got consideration for the 3rd choice.

BTW – Where is ARCTIC AIR????

  8. I hate to be reductive and dismissive – and I don’t mean it this way at all. But I’m glad that TV-eh chose to focus on series that were actively still going on and not already canceled. I know ARCTIC AIR has its fans, but one of the really enervating things is seeing awards shows honoring shows that are already dead, and people popping up to say, “there hasn’t been a good Canadian TV show since XXXXX was canceled 7 years ago.”

Giving love to current shows with the opportunity to pick up viewers is a noble cause very much in line with Tv-eh’s philosophy. There’s so much creativity going on — so much good work being done. And rather than marinate in frustration, looking forward is always a good thing.

  9. I would have picked Defiance if it were in the poll. Arrow is pretty good too.

I like Vikings, but I’m not sure what makes it “Canadian”.

I don’t look for shows because they are Canadian, but I watch about half of the top fifteen here, and several others further down the list. A lot of excellent shows are made in Canada now.

    1. The rules can be fairly arcane when you get into the details but the CRTC defines Canadian content. Arrow and Defiance aren’t, though they film here. Vikings is a Canadian co-production.

I didn’t set out to exclude anything but the list would be unmanageable with every single CanCon show and the comments are an obvious place to do a write-in vote.

    1. There are radio buttons next to each option and a vote button at the bottom. If you don’t see that, refresh or check back later – you’ve got a glitch.

    2. You have to scroll down below the stats until you see a dark line with POLL in a green field. Click on the Poll.

  10. Bitten and Heartland!!! Two of the best tv and book series ever! I’m dying to see the new seasons of both coming in early 2015, ahhhhh can’t wait! Love Lost Girl so much too and so sad that this will be their final season but they’ve had a great run and will be missed :)

  11. At 10 PM ET, LG had nearly a 200 vote lead.
MM now has nearly an 800 vote lead — a 1000 vote swing in 2 1/2 hours.

Gotta admire such a passionate fandom.

  12. It’s hard to include every series, but the Knowledge Network’s doc series, Emergency Room kicked some butt out here on the west coast.

  13. I feel bad for Blackstone. It deserves more votes. Its my 5th favourite Canadian show so I didn’t get to vote for it.

  14. Um…no daytime shows? Cityline? Steven and Chris? The Social? They deserve some love too. Just sayin’.

      1. Where does one Vote? If one made add a Vote here, please allow me to place my Vote for Murdoch Mysteries for 1st, then Lost Girl 2nd. Cheeres!

    1. The poll is open until 2 pm PT on Dec 19. If you haven’t already voted (in which case you’ll only see results) you should see check boxes next to each show and the vote button at the bottom of the list.

  15. As a huge “Haven” fan I a really rooting for it to do well. They just taped a double season (Season 5) with the second half to air some time in the New Year. BUT will there be a Season 6 ? I’d hate for the show to just end without a proper conclusion.

I live in Nova Scotia and love visiting the sites where they tape the show.

  16. Canadian drama shows are not glitzy like most U.S. shows, but that’s what’s great about them. I watch most – Heartland,Blackstone,Artic Air etc. etc. … it’s like I’m walking out my front door and right into them – real, believable people. Eg.,Heartland at times is a bit ‘corny’ but if it doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, you’re not human!

  17. Surprised to see Big Bro Canada down the list. Should be in the top 10/ at least the top 20. I only like 5 shows on this list (vikings, lost girls, Big Brother, Motive, etc, Masterchef Canada)

    My ranks
    5. Masterchef Canada
    4. Motive
    3. Vikings
    2. Big Brother Canada
    1. Lost girls

  18. For the record:
    At 5:13 PM ET
    Lost Girl (41%, 8,279 Votes)
    Murdoch Mysteries (39%, 7,948 Votes)
