Results: Your Favourite Canadian TV Shows of 2015 are …

Fans of Canadian television shows certainly are a passionate lot, and they’re not confined to our borders either. Of the over 25,000 who voted for their Top 5 shows of 2015, dozens voiced their support from around the world.

Yes, the voting for a few shows took a suspicious jump over the last couple of days, but we’ll chalk that up to super-fans who simply love their programs … and know how to use technology to their advantage. (The voting wasn’t affected that much in the end.)

By the time the tally was taken, the Top 10 Canadian Shows of 2015 are:

  1. Dark Matter (27%, 7,269 Votes)
  2. Lost Girl (25%, 6,777 Votes)
  3. Killjoys (21%, 5,766 Votes)
  4. Heartland (20%, 5,384 Votes)
  5. Murdoch Mysteries (10%, 2,632 Votes)
  6. Orphan Black (8%, 2,147 Votes)
  7. Tornado Hunters (8%, 2,080 Votes)
  8. Rookie Blue (6%, 1,634 Votes)
  9. When Calls the Heart (6%, 1,557 Votes)
  10. Rick Mercer Report (5%, 1,486 Votes)

Aside from the Top 10 vote-getters, I was pleased to see several new programs perform well in the poll. Clearly, viewers love seeing three guys tooling around in a truck capturing wacky weather on film, as Tornado Hunters placed No. 7, not bad at all for a show that debuted late in the year and veteran The Liquidator finished just out of the Top 10.

Thanks again to everyone who voted. Check out the final results; you can still name your favourites in the Comments section at the bottom of the page.

  1. Wow. I expected the crazy Murdoch Fans to win but Dark Matter is a surprise. I actually dropped the show 4 episodes in because it failed to catch me wanting for more. I do watch 5 of the top 10 shows though. Nice to see Tornado Hunters in there–a few of the guys in there are from around where I live. I’ve even seen their storm chasing car a few times around town.

  2. I actually feel sorry for Spun Out.

The first season was ABSOLUTE garbage but for some reason I decided to watch the second season and it had actually become a VERY watchable show. Too bad we’ll never get to see a 3rd season. It developed far slower than Schitt’s Creek but I could envision it reaching the same level if it had been given more time.

  3. Yaaaay, so happy to see Dark Matter on the top. A great show, whoever hasn’t seen it should totally check it out. :)

  4. Orphan Black only got 8%? I haven’t watched the 3rd season yet, but I thought it would easily be in the top three.
Nice to see Dark Matter getting some love. I hope the new season gets here soon.

  5. You kinda undo the whole point of your poll if you say people cheated. It’s really insulting to the people who did vote.

    1. I didn’t say “cheating.” And I was trying to have a little bit of fun despite the fact that some voters were able to tweak the poll illegally. The poll was supposed to be fun. I thanked everyone who voted, and I was sincere about in my thanks.

  6. I feel that saying ‘ and know how to use technology to their advantage.’ is being somewhat insulting. But anyway, glad to see some Canadian content being recognized.

  7. Why even bother show the results if you’re accusing some fandoms of cheating? Regardless, I love a lot of these shows on the list (my guilty pleasures are all the reality competition shows, aha).

    1. Probably all the Lost Girl fans complained so he had to say something about it.

It’s just really insulting to be told you can’t have won because you had to be cheating. If he had hardcore proof he should have disqualified whoever it was.

      1. No fans from any shows contacted me to complain. I didn’t name names and I didn’t call out shows. The numbers were out of whack and I know why. I ended the poll a little earlier than I normally would have. The point of the poll was to have some fun and celebrate great Canadian TV. We did that.

    2. I refuse to throw out all of the voting numbers because of a few people. We always post the results of our polls and this one was no different. I had fun putting the poll together and celebrating great Canadian TV.

  8. Dark Matter and Lost Girl are my favorite shows, so I was happy to see them come in at 1 and 2!

  9. If Dark Matter won it’s because Zoie Palmer is in it and her obsessive fans don’t know the meaning of a quality TV series worthy of acclaim and one that is second rate. Sorry, but Dark Matter is so predictable and monotonous that I tuned out before the season was halfway through. (P.S. I am a fan of Zoie Palmer and she deserves to be in a series that gives her character more than three minutes of screen time per episode.)

  10. I really love watching Heartland, best family show I’ve seen in years. Hopefully there will be a season 10 !!!
