Now that the Canadian Upfronts are wrapped, we’ve got a complete list of the new homegrown series set to debut during the 2016-17 television season. Some will be on the air this fall, while others will debut during midseason.
What we want to know is, which five have got you the most interested in checking out this season? I had a tough time choosing 5. Until I actually see some of the trailers it’ll be difficult to surmise which looks best. There are a lot of good-sounding shows coming to Canadian tv. Ultimately I chose Frontier, Pure, Shoot the Messenger, Workin’ Moms and Russell Peters is the Indian Detective. I also plan on checking out Second Jen, Kim’s Convenience, The Beaverton, This is High School and The Disappearance. Also, two shows which I realize may not air for another year that I really want to watch are The Council and Caught.
Thanks for voting. I was going to ask folks to vote for three, but that seemed too little. I plan to check out all of the scripted stuff, but I’m excited about Frontier, Cardinal, Shoot the Messenger and Kim’s Convenience.
I usually check out most Canadian scripted fare just because they are Canadian although I avoid procedurals like the plague–shows like Motive, Houdini & Doyle and Private Eyes I never once looked at.
Travelers, too, I might watch. I forgot about that one.
It was difficult narrowing down my choices to five. I plan to give a bunch of them a watch and see if the pilots catch my interest.
I chose 3. Kim’s Convenience, Second Jen, Sorkin’s Moms.
Seems like nobody here likes Private Eyes. Why ? Stats say a lot are watching, we sure are, and we really like it.
I don’t like procedurals so Private Eyes isnt for me. Also, it looks like one of those Cancon shows that try hard to look American and hide its Canadianess which is a big negative for me.
Private Eyes didn’t make this list because it’s on the air now, and will be done Season 1 by the time September comes. I’m liking the show a lot!
