  1. Just confirms my belief that the CSAs are mostly a CBC thing, airing on that network, honoring their shows.

    1. The CBC has a certain edge at the CSAs because of their mandate. When you create more Canadian television content then any other network (because you have to) it’s understandable that you collect more of the awards.

I was troubled by the low production values of the televised gala. Jonny Harris and Emma Hunter did a pretty decent job of hosting, but the editing seemed sloppy and some gaffs were far too noticeable. The biggest was Allan Hawco and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee being stranded on stage after being sent out one award presentation too early.

The other issue was that the two hour timeslot was too rushed. They were playing off the major award winners after far too short a time.

The Canadian entertainment industry deserves better. As I tweeted last night, there’s no way the Gala could ever win one of its own awards.

I was impressed by the four special awards. Margaret Atwood, the Rick Mercer Report, Clarke Johnson and Peter Mansbridge… there’s a good list of honourees for you. I was especially impressed with Jann Arden’s presentation for RMR and by Peter Mansbridge’s acceptance speech.

    2. Sorry, but the CBC doesn’t decide who wins a Canadian Screen Award. That’s left to juries of actors, actresses, producers, directors and other behind-the-scenes TV and film makers.
