Sunday, Oct. 1

Rent-a-Goalie, Showcase: Rent-A-Goalie revolves around the exploits of Cake (Christopher Bolton), a hockey-mad, recovered-from-everything go-to guy, who runs a rag-tag hockey goalie rental service out of Cafe Primo, a family-owned coffee shop in Toronto’s Little Italy. Here, at this crazy crossroads of hockey culture, coffee culture and Italian-Canadian culture, Cake has finally found a home. He spends his time juggling friends and enemies, the ridiculous and the profound, while always trying to live by The Code – an ever evolving set of personal ethics, spiritual maxims and athletic credos that keep him on the straight and narrow. Airs Sundays at 9:30 p.m. on Showcase.

Monday, Oct. 2

Plucked, CMT: CMT takes six completely unknown country acts and catapults them into stardom in Plucked. Taking a diverse group of bands and individual performers out of obscurity, we’ll document their journey to stardom. Tune in and find out how they succeed and cope with sudden fame, as their careers skyrocket with the help of music industry experts. The final episode is live from CMT studios, as the audience gets a glimpse at all final videos. Airs Mondays at 10 p.m. on CMT.

Tuesday, Oct. 3

Rick Mercer Report, CBC: Rick Mercer Report is back with its 4th season this Tuesday, October 3 at 8 p.m. On the first episode, Rick heads to Regina and has a little fun with the Roughriders. Rick will be on the road each week, from the far North to Parliament Hill, showing viewers what’s strange, controversial and just plain funny. Airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBC.

Wednesday, Oct. 4

Dragons’ Den, CBC: On Dragons’ Den, aspiring entrepreneurs from across the country get the chance to pitch their ideas, inventions or products to a panel of five Dragons – Canada’s most successful business people and multimillionaires who are willing to invest their own cash in the best ideas. The pitches this week include napping centres for overtired executives, an exercise machine touted as the “next Bowflex,” a plan to use the tides to generate electricity, and a device to strengthens the Kegel muscles. Airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on CBC.

New Series Debuts Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. on CBC-TV

All it takes is guts, determination and a great idea. Budding entrepreneurs pitching everything from sexy and playful underwear to an innovative technology that can mould glass without heat will try to convince five wealthy Canadian business executives (the Dragons) that their idea is the next big thing. DRAGONS’ DEN the five-part, one-hour series premieres Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. on CBC Television. In this high-stakes game of all or nothing, the candidates must face a panel of Dragons, who will invest up to $1 million of their own cash to bring dreams to reality for those chosen entrepreneurs.
