Meet Jake Doyle – rogue, charmer, drinker, brawler, emotionally immature and unavailable… and the handsome, P.I. hero of REPUBLIC OF DOYLE, a new one-hour dramatic series premiering on CBC Television on Wednesday, January 6 at 9 p.m.

Doyle (Allan Hawco, ZOS: Zone of Separation, H20) is a new breed of private investigator, cracking cases – and the occasional head – in the contemporary St. John’s, Newfoundland. His hometown is changing in a big way, transforming from a small seaport to a booming oil town, and where there’s cash, there’s trash – and lots of it. With his father/partner-in-crime-solving, Malachy Doyle (Sean McGinley, Michael Collins, Braveheart), by his side, Jake is ready to take on whatever mystery turns up on the Doyle doorstep.

    “Cherry said he had a blast working Battle of the Blades last month as a judge, but said one guy associated with that show just isn’t getting enough credit. “I know I’m going back on everything I’ve ever said about the guy, but Ron MacLean held that whole show together,” sez Grapes. CBC TELEVISION OFFERS MORE GREAT CANADIAN ENTERTAINMENT WITH ITS NEW WINTER 2010 PROGRAM SCHEDULE

Kirstine Stewart, general manager of CBC Television, today announced details of the network’s winter 2010 schedule that, along with a number of ongoing favourites, features the new Monday night family comedy 18 TO LIFE, the father-and-son P.I. series REPUBLIC OF DOYLE, the long-awaited return to the network of one of Canada’s most legendary comedy troupes with KIDS IN THE HALL: DEATH COMES TO TOWN, a two-part TV movie event based on the life of DON CHERRY, and a daytime lineup anchored by a new season of STEVEN AND CHRIS.
