Everything about Rick Mercer Report, eh?

In the news: Rick Mercer

From John Law of the Niagara Falls Review:

  • Rick Mercer’s not talking to reporters
“Mercer, whose latest CBC show, “The Rick Mercer Report,” returns for a fifth season this fall, showed several clips Thursday, including a classic sketch filmed on budget day 11 years ago when he convinced prime minister Jean Chretien to have lunch at a Harvey’s restaurant. Turns out, Chretien did it knowing it would steal the front page from finance minister Paul Martin, a political rival. It was a key lesson for Mercer – if you want politicians to do something, find out who “they hate the most.”

In the news: Canadian shows shortlisted for Banff awards

From Playback:

  • Mosque shortlisted for Banff awards
“For the second year in a row, CBC’s The Rick Mercer Report is named in the best comedy category, up against first-season nominee Little Mosque on the Prairie, from Regina- and Toronto-based WestWind Pictures, which also airs on the pubcaster. They will square off against The Knights of Prosperity – which has struggled on U.S. caster ABC – and U.K. shows including Channel 4’s Green Wing, the BBC’s Pulling, and The Vicar of Dibley: The Handsome Stranger from Tiger Aspect Productions.”
