In the news: Canadian shows offer cheap alternative for US nets

  • CBS, NBC Buy Canadian TV Shows to Save on Costs as Ads Shrivel
    “U.S. networks have made shows in Canada for years to gain tax benefits. Now they are buying dramas written and produced for Canadian TV and set north of the border. CTV, the nation’s largest private broadcaster, is sharing costs and will air shows at the same time. The results are licensing fees for new dramas that are about half the typical $1.6 million per episode.” Read more.

Fox International Channels (FIC), today announced the first-ever worldwide global premiere of its new television drama series, The Listener, the first week of March 2009. FIC will premiere the show before its debut in the US (NBC) and Canada (CTV) later this year.
