New tonight: Rick Mercer Report, 22 Minutes, Michael Tuesdays & Thursdays, The Debaters

The Rick Mercer Report (8 p.m./8:30 NT): Tonight Rick is in Langford, BC where he trains with the Canadian National Rugby Team and then goes to the University of Victoria to shave off World Cup Rugby star Adam Kleeberger’s immense beard for charity. Rick also ventures to Fergus, Ontario to ride with the Ontario Provincial Police Golden Helmets Precision Motorcycle Team.

22 Minutes (8:30 p.m./9 NT): The 80s are back in style and there are more than just animal print pants in common between then and now. Alan Thicke joins us as guest host of our look-back-at-the-80’s show! Special appearances by Ben Mulroney, David Suzuki, Bob MacDonald and musical guest, The Spoons.

Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays (9 p.m./9:30 NT): After finally reading David’s book, Michael (Matt Watts) disappears. Frantic, David (Bob Martin) asks for Claire’s (Tommie-Amber Pirie) help. Eventually Claire finds Michael holed up in the basement of the father who abandoned him, Stanley Peter Dyer (Michael Murphy). David busies himself with Mrs. Bronfman (Lynne Griffin) and her dead cat issues.

The Debaters (9:30 p.m./10 NT): This week the show explores Social Networks with Charles Demers and Elvira Kurt and Extinct Animals with Sean Cullen and David Pryde.

Another pair iced on Battle of the Blades

BOTB - Week 6 - Ep 12 - Violetta Cale

Violetta Afanasieva and Cale Hulse skated for their survival tonight on the Hallowe’en episode of BATTLE OF THE BLADES, but their performance fell short and they have become the fourth “iced” pair on this live competitive TV series. The Canadian Cancer Society will receive a $25,000 donation in their honour.

The pair Tanith Belbin and Boyd Devereaux, also in the bottom two, will continue to compete for their chance to win a $100,000 donation to their chosen charities, the Montreal Neurological Institute and Epilepsy Huron-Perth-Bruce.

One of the most decorated skaters in history, international figure skating superstar Katarina Witt provided her knowledgeable commentary on each pair’s performance as Guest Judge along with remarks from Head Judge Sandra Bezic and Resident Judge Jeremy Roenick this week on BATTLE OF THE BLADES.

Broadcast from the MasterCard Centre on Sunday, November 6 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT) on CBC, the four pairs returning to compete on the ice are: Tanith Belbin and Boyd Devereaux; Elena Berezhnaya and Curtis Leschyshyn; Tessa Bonhomme and David Pelletier and Marie-France Dubreuil and Bryan Berard. The next dramatic, half-hour “skate-off” results show is on Monday, November 7 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT).

Results – A fan-favourite from season one, international figure skating superstar Katarina Witt returns to BATTLE OF THE BLADES’ judging panel as Guest Judge along with Head Judge Sandra Bezic and Resident Judge Jeremy Roenick. Viewers will enjoy Witt’s candid remarks as the five remaining pairs compete as characters in full costume for this week’s Hallowe’en theme live on Sunday, October 30 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT) and on Monday, October 31 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT).

CBC’s new live weekly musical competition series, COVER ME CANADA, rocked the crowds as Canadian music legends Alan Frew from Glass Tiger, Alannah Myles, David Clayton Thomas from Blood, Sweat and Tears and Helix’s Brian Vollmer joined the final four on stage to perform some of this country’s best rock hits. The show kicked off with Bill Henderson from Chilliwack joining Warren Dean Flandez, Ali Milner, The Melanie Morgan Band and Whosarmy for a group medley of Chilliwack’s 1970’s hit ‘Whatcha Gonna Do’.
