Amber Marshall 03 highHeartland

“Never Let Go” – Amy helps to restore the confidence of a troubled, young trick-rider so that she can get back on her horse and perform again.

The judging panel, made up of Nilan as Guest Judge, Sandra Bezic as Head Judge and Jeremy Roenick returning after a two week absence as Resident Judge, has no “saves” left to protect the pairs who will skate for their survival on this competitive live TV series on Sunday, October 23 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT) and on Monday, October 24 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT).

CBC struggles in ratings during fall “ulcer time”

From Bill Brioux of the Canadian Press:

  • CBC-TV struggles in fall ratings war against private networks
New shows, such as “Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays” and “Cover Me Canada,” are flopping. Old favourites, like “Battle of the Blades” and “Dragons’ Den,” are suddenly less dominant. Where have all the viewers gone? CBC head of scheduling Christine Wilson says the fall is always “ulcer time” for the public broadcaster, under siege from culture watchdogs on the left and funding critics on the right. Read more.

More on his blog:

  • It’s “ulcer time” again this fall at CBC
Look at the numbers just from this week: Michael Tuesdays & Thursdays 178,000. InSecurity 192,000. The Debaters 162,000. More shocking may be how far some of the CBC hits have fallen. The Rick Mercer Report has a “Best of 2010” (?) repeat on this week which dragged it down to 569,000 Tuesday. Battle of the Blades Monday skidded to 686,000 Monday. Being Erica dropped down to 272,000. Read more.

New tonight: The Ron James Show on CBC

Ron James takes on Mortality & Aging. A Dad expects his wife and kids to put the ‘fun’ in ‘funeral’ when he goes, but things backfire when the family gets a little too excited about his send-off; Aunt Vivien uses her video will as a way to figure out who should get a lot and who should get squat; and Lil Ronnie “borrows” Nanny’s magnifying glass with disastrous results. In this episode’s Ode to the Road, Ron visits that socialist stronghold, Saskatoon – only to discover there’s not much of Tommy Douglas left in the place.
