Endgame stars Shawn Doyle (Big Love, Lost), as the former World Chess Champion Arkady Balagan. After witnessing the murder of his fianc̩e, Balagan develops a debilitating case of agoraphobia. Unable to leave his hotel and running out of money, the arrogant and charismatic Russian inadvertently becomes a detective Рusing his fierce analytical skills to solve the crimes that baffle others. Balagan relies on friends and hotel employees to do his legwork; from conducting interviews and trailing suspects to bringing back clues. Balagan then uses his strategic thinking to stage imaginative, and often amusing, reenactments in his own mind-until he finds the solution.

In the two-part episode “All Lizards Go to Heaven,†when Carl accidentally steps on his sister’s pet lizard and Porter resurrects it, an Angel investigator arrests Porter for unauthorized regeneration magic and takes him before the Angel Tribunal to face permanent expulsion. Carl finds himself in Heaven trying to help Porter not get expelled for using regeneration magic and he must convince Denise to help him with a show of Angel-in-Training solidarity.
Aidan watches Bernie die twice. Sally re-connects with an old acquaintance while Josh takes the next step with Nora.
