Stargate Universe cast and creators to meet fans

SPACE Invites STARGATE UNIVERSE Fans to Celebrate Multi Gemini-Nominated Series Live and in Person, Nov. 12

sgu 0015-posterOn Nov. 12, die-hard fans of SPACE’s multi Gemini Award-nominated series STARGATE UNIVERE (SGU) can see the cast live and in person when INNERSPACE takes over CTV’s Masonic Temple in Toronto for INNERSPACE: SGU SPECIAL. Taped in front of a studio audience, SGU’s Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, Ming-Na, Julia Benson, Patrick Gilmore, Jennifer Spence, and Peter Kelamis, along with creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, sit down with INNERSPACE hosts Ajay Fry and Teddy Wilson for an in-depth chat of all things SGU. Audience members also get access to an exclusive autograph session with the stars following the taping. SGU fans can be part of INNERSPACE’s live studio audience by emailing tickets@spacecast.com or calling 416-384-LIVE (416-384-5483). Fans should arrive early on Nov. 12 at 888 Yonge St. to pick up their wristbands. Doors open at 9:15 a.m. ET followed by an advanced screening of that nights’ SGU episode at 10 a.m. ET.

Before visiting INNERSPACE, the cast stops by CANADA AM to chat with co-hosts Beverly Thomson and Seamus O’Regan about the Gemini nominations, the success of the franchise and the ever-growing popularity of genre programming. The action kicks-off a day before the 2010 Gemini Awards gala in Toronto on November 13, with SGU up for four marquee awards, including “Best Dramatic Series”, two for “Best Lead Actor” and “Best Director”. In total, SGU received a series high nine Gemini Awards this year, tied for second for most nominations for a drama behind CTV’s hit series FLASHPOINT. Since its series premiere in October 2009, SGU is the most-watched series on SPACE. The series is also critically acclaimed, and nominated for 22 awards, including a 2010 Emmy® for “Outstanding Visual Effects”.

Battle of the Blades goes Hollywood

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! BATTLE OF THE BLADES HEADS TO HOLLYWOOD THIS WEEK

  • THEME: STAGE & SCREEN

BATTLE OF THE BLADES is bringing the Stage and Screen to life this week, as the five pairs resume the regular competition. The skaters’ favourite theatrical music will be used to interpret stories or characters as Toller Cranston, considered one of the most creative skaters of all times, joins the judging panel this week.

Born in Hamilton, ON, Toller Cranston is among the most influential figure skaters of this century. Although he never won a world championship, he paved the way for future generations of male figures to be freer and more expressive by adding a higher degree of artistry to the sport. Today, Cranston resides in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where he is an internationally renowned painter and illustrator.

After winning Olympic bronze medal in 1976, Toller Cranston was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1976, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1977, Skate Canada’s Hall of Fame in 1977, and Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2003, in addition to being made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1977 and receiving a Special Olympic Order from the Canadian Olympic Association in 1995.

Cranston joins head judge Sandra Bezic and Jeremy Roenick on this week’s judging panel as the five remaining pairs compete in the hopes of winning a $100,000 donation for their charity of choice. This week’s theme is ‘Stage & Screen’ and audiences can expect heightened theatrical elements in each routine as pairs vie for top marks.

Gemini Award winners announced

2010 Gemini Awards Presented in Drama, Children’s and Youth, Comedy, and Variety Categories

Gemini Award winners in the Drama, Children’s and Youth, Comedy, and Variety categories were announced tonight at the second of two Industry Galas. Hosted by actor and director Art Hindle (E.N.G., Paradise Falls), a total of 38 awards were presented as well as the Margaret Collier Award and the Academy Achievement Award. The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television also paid tribute to 2010 MasterWorks Television Honouree Polka Dot Door.

Winners in Documentary, Lifestyle, News, and Sports categories were announced on Tuesday, November 2nd. The 25th Annual Gemini Awards will conclude with the Broadcast Gala on Saturday, November 13th at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto. Hosted by Glee’s Cory Monteith, the event will be broadcast on Global and Showcase at 8pm.
