    “Canada’s television shows – news and non-fiction programs excluded – are terrible compared to their American counterparts. And it’s not only in one genre: we fail in every category imaginable. In response to American comedies like The Office and 30 Rock, we come back with Little Mosque on the Prairie. For their action dramas NCIS and Prison Break, we come up with Flashpoint. Animated shows like Family Guy and South Park are met with Bob & Doug and Chilly Beach. They created Saturday Night Live, we came up with The Royal Canadian Air Farce. The Daily Show? The Rick Mercer Report. Seriously, we couldn’t even get Sesame Street right – we had to create a monster named Sesame Park.” Read more.

Canwest and the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television will proudly pay tribute to three Canadian comedic television gems at the 24th Annual Gemini Awards.

This Saturday, November 14 – 9pm ET/PT on Global and Showcase (please check local listings), the Gemini Awards will salute Corner Gas, Royal Canadian Air Farce and Trailer Park Boys for their outstanding and enduring contributions to the Canadian television industry. Having recently wrapped their final seasons, the Academy will honour these influential comedies with a special look back at their funniest moments on-air. Cast members from each show will be on hand to accept their award.

  • Injury to Marie-France Dubreuil leaves the decision in Canada’s hands

Bottom3As a result of a back injury sustained earlier today, Marie-France Dubreuil was unable to skate in the scheduled Monday night skate-off on BATTLE OF THE BLADES. Judge Sandra Bezic declared all remaining three pairs safe for this week, leaving the decision to Canadians to decide next week which pair will win $100,000 for the charity of their choice.
