Jay Baruchel returns in Season 2 of the Crave original docuseries, We’re All Gonna Die (Even Jay Baruchel)

From a media release:

After more than two years since the series debut, Jay Baruchel is still worrying about humanity’s demise. Crave announced today that Season 2 of its award-winning original docuseries WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE (EVEN JAY BARUCHEL) premieres with all six episodes on Friday, April 19.

In the Canadian Screen Award-winning, half-hour series about the various ways the world could end, Canadian actor, director, and author Jay Baruchel (Blackberry, Goon) is once again joined by top scientists, activists, and experts to explore the global crises that could cause civilization’s demise, all while trying to find the solutions and technological innovations to potentially save the world.

With his trademark wit, relatable discomfort, and deep curiosity, Baruchel continues his journey to dig below the surface of his own anxieties and fears, exploring artificial intelligence, coronal mass ejections, insect die-offs, nanotechnology, the simulation theory, and his own personal fear of death. Episodic synopses for Season 2 are outlined below:

Episode 1 – Jay – I

  • Artificial Intelligence is here. Is it going to take over? Jay finds out how much time remains before society bows down to its robot overlords.

Episode 2 – Scary Space Shit

  • Jay is terrified of outer space. Turns out, he’s right to be afraid. From gamma bursts to coronal mass ejections, space could severely mess things up on Earth.

Episode 3 – Insect Extermination

  • Jay learns about a terrifying, and growing, problem: insects are dying off and it’s humanity’s fault. What happens if they become extinct? Can humanity survive without bugs?

Episode 4 – Nano Nightmare

  • This tiny technology may help to solve major problems, but Jay learns that it also comes with extraordinary risks to the environment.

Episode 5 – Simulation Schimulation

  • Jay explores the idea that reality is actually a computer simulation. But, if nothing is real, then should anyone even bother trying to save the world?

Episode 6 – The End of Jays

  • In the season finale, Jay confronts the ultimate existential threat: his own doom. Can he learn to accept the uncertainty of his inevitable, but unpredictable, death?

WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE is produced by 90th Parallel Productions in partnership with Bell Media’s Crave. Directed by Jay Baruchel, produced by Stuart Henderson and Javiera Quintana, and written by Stuart Henderson, Emma Kassirer, and Kirk Ramsay. All-new Crave original series, We’re All Gonna Die (even Jay Baruchel), premieres April 30

From a media release:

Death is certain. What isn’t certain is how — or if — the human species will perish entirely, and what humanity will do to cope or even thrive in the face of catastrophic threats. In an attempt to explore this complex existential crisis, Crave announced today that its new original series WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE (EVEN JAY BARUCHEL) is available for streaming on Crave on Saturday, April 30 in English and French. Hosted by Canadian actor, director, and author Jay Baruchel (Goon, This Is The End), the half-hour, six-part series is a smart, tongue-in-cheek look at the end of the world, which draws together science, psychology, pop culture, and philosophy.

A teaser trailer for WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE debuted during last night’s 94th OSCARS® broadcast coverage on CTV. Also revealed today are first-look images from the new series.

In each episode, Baruchel meets his fascination with the apocalypse head-on, as he explores, from a place of genuine curiosity and wonder, various ways humanity could possibly meet its doom including; an asteroid Armageddon; a nuclear catastrophe; a pandemic pandemonium; an alien invasion; a volcanic cataclysm; and a climate apocalypse. Featuring some of the top scientists, activists, and experts in their respective fields, and highlighting the cutting-edge science, ideas, and technological innovations at the forefront of the defense of humanity, the series is suffused with the ultimate hope that humankind can come together to make the world a better place.

Episodic synopses for this ‘killer’ series are outlined below:

Episode 1 – Asteroid Armageddon
Could an asteroid destroy the world? Jay meets with experts including the Planetary Defense Officer at NASA to find out if “we’re all gonna die”.

Episode 2 – Nuclear Catastrophe
Jay learns that, far from being a relic of the Cold War, nuclear Armageddon is as big a threat as ever.

Episode 3 – Pandemic Pandemonium
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jay tackles the existential threat of disease, while considering the added danger of human-made viruses.

Episode 4 – Alien Invasion
Jay believes that aliens are out there, watching us at the very least. But do they pose a threat? (Maybe!)

Episode 5 – Volcanic Cataclysm
Jay learns about a surprising threat. Supervolcanoes are often overlooked, but when they erupt, they will change the Earth’s climate.

Episode 6 – Climate Apocalypse
Jay explores the emergency that is climate change, and considers what we can do, as a species, to save ourselves from… ourselves.

WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE is produced by 90th Parallel Productions in association with Bell Media’s Crave with the participation of the Canada Media Fund (CMF), the Government of Canada – Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit Program and Ontario Creates – Tax Credit Program. Jay Baruchel joins the Letterkenny cast in feature role as production begins on next six-pack

From a media release:

CraveTV confirmed today that Montréal-born actor, director, producer – and reported Habs fan – Jay Baruchel, joins the LETTERKENNY cast as Hard Right Jay  – a Tiki Torch-carrying out-of-towner, who stirs things up in Letterkenny – in an all-new six-pack of episodes. If that’s not enough to toot your horn, this round also features social media-mega star Evan Breen, taking on the role of Straight Edge Eric, Jay’s trusty side-kick. Sarah Gadon returns in the new block of episodes, reprising her role as mysterious lady-skid, Gae.

Returning to direct is Jacob Tierney, who also reprises his fan-favourite role as Christian leader, Glen. Currently in production in Sudbury, ON, and set to launch in 2018, the new six-pack focuses on the rising City vs. Rural tensions – which basically means a bunch of “citiots” could get their arses kicked. But it’s not all scrappin’ ‘cause Wayne’s still looking for love.

Also joining the cast this six-pack are Alex Harrouch (Degrassi) as resident skid and IT expert, Everett; Magalie Lépine Blondeau as Wayne’s incroyable love interest; Pierre Yves Cardinal as Jean Claude; and Kelly McCormack (Killjoys) and Jess Salgueiro (Saving Hope) as Shamrockette stars Mary-Anne and Betty-Anne.

Created by and starring Jared Keeso, the award-winning half-hour comedy is produced by New Metric Media in partnership with DHX Media and Playfun Games.

LETTERKENNY revolves around the dustups Wayne (Jared Keeso) and his buds get into with their small-town rivals. The Hicks, The Skids, and The Hockey Players get at each other about the most mundane things, often ending with someone getting their ass kicked. Key residents of LETTERKENNY are Daryl (Nathan Dales), Wayne’s free-spirited younger sister Katy (Michelle Mylett), and Wayne’s buddy, Dan (K Trevor Wilson) – all Hicks. CSA-nominated Daniel Petronijevic returns as Hick McMurray. Dylan Playfair and Andrew Herr reprise their roles as hotshot Hockey Players “Jonesy” and “Reilly”. Tyler Johnston and Evan Stern return as Skids Stewart and Roald. Mark Forward returns as the temperamental Coach of the Letterkenny Irish and Tiio Horn is back as badass leader of The Natives, Tanis. As well, Sébastien Huberdeau, Alexandre Landry, Domenic Di Rosa, and Kim Cloutier reprise their roles as The Hicks’ Québécois counterparts, Les Hiques.

Based on the internet sensation Letterkenny Problems, the half-hour comedy is currently a top performer and marquee program for CraveTV since its memorable launch on Super Bowl Sunday in 2015. Season 1 of LETTERKENNY took home three 2017 Canadian Screen Awards for Best Comedy Series, Best Writing in a Comedy Program or Series, and Best Direction in a Comedy Program or Series. As well, series creator Jared Keeso and co-writer and director Jacob Tierney have been recognized with a Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Award for TV Comedy.

Seasons 1 – 3, along with special episodes “Ferda Edition”, “The Haunting of MoDean’s II”, “St. Perfect’s Day,” and the original web series Letterkenny Problems are currently streaming on CraveTV. LETTERKENNY is also available on iTunes and Google Play. Season 1 of LETTERKENNY will also be available on DVD, November 21, wherever DVDs are sold.

Today’s news comes on the heels of the recently announced 40-plus episode production commitment and comprehensive multi-year partnership between CraveTV and series producers New Metric Media. The deal also supports a 30-city LETTERKENNY LIVE! tour starring Jared Keeso (Wayne), Nathan Dales (Daryl), K Trevor Wilson (Dan) and Mark Forward (Coach).

LETTERKENNY is produced by New Metric Media, in partnership with DHX Media and Playfun Games in association with Bell Media, with the participation of Canadian Media Fund, OMDC Tax Credits and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and distributed by DHX Media.
