In the news: Global assures the shows will go on

I don’t normally post about industry business, just programs, but since people have been asking how Canwest Global’s bankruptcy protection filing will affect those programs … here’s the news for now.

  • Canwest assures viewers, TV partners of regularly scheduled programming
    “Williams said that she and other programming managers spoke with producing partners Wednesday to assure them that series orders would proceed as planned, and that they would be paid for their work. … Big homegrown series on deck include the Global crime drama, “Copper,” set to also air south of the border on ABC, the Showcase series “Crash and Burn” and the Callum Keith Rennie vehicle, “Shattered,” also bound for Showcase.” Read more.

Canwest taps top talent for new drama pilots

From a media release:

  • Ben Bass, Luke Kirby and Callum Keith Rennie Take Lead Roles
  • Ken Girotti, John Fawcett, Bobby Roth, David Wellington At Directorial Helm

Canwest today confirmed an impressive line up of creative and on-screen talent for its most recently announced slate of drama pilots.

“Great scripts attract great talent and we are thrilled with the calibre of directors and actors who have come on board to these exciting new projects,” said Christine Shipton, Senior Vice President, Dramatic and Factual Content.
