Season 2 of Worst to First premieres May 16 on HGTV Canada

Skyrocketing real estate prices and renovation costs make owning a dream home a challenging reality, but best friends and builders Mickey and Sebastian are here to help. In Season 2 of Worst to First, premiering Thursday, May 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV Canada, they continue to transform the worst houses in the neighbourhood into the best on the block. While the guys lead the house search and tackle the renovations, designer Catherine Yuen joins the team to find design solutions to enhance each space. Together the trio create forever homes that reflect the needs and personalities of the homeowners.

Making her debut on the network and in Worst to First, B.C. designer Catherine Yuen brings her holistic design approach to the show. Inspired by her mother’s love of design and renovation shows, Catherine became an Interior Designer after earning her Bachelor of Interior Design at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. With a fresh approach and creative flare, Catherine develops beautiful and functional spaces that reflect her clients’ personality and style.

This season kicks off with the Worst to First team creating a fresh start for a blended family. With four kids and two dogs, John and Lyndsay need more space. Their current property has all six of them squished into the upper level because nobody wants to venture into the dark and uninviting lower level. They need an open-concept family room, dedicated office space, and easy access to the pool area that will give their family enough space to spread out. Mickey, Sebastian, and Catherine make every effort to impress to make this family’s reno dreams a reality.

Corus Entertainment renews eight Canadian series for its 2018-2019 programming slate

Corus Entertainment continues its commitment to investing in Canadian original content with renewals of fan-favourite series across its suite of networks, including HGTV Canada’s Backyard Builds, Love It or List It Vancouver, Property Brothers, Property Brothers: Buying and Selling, $ave My Reno and Worst to First; Food Network Canada’s Carnival Eats; and Global Television’s Border Security: America’s Front Line. Today’s renewals follow Corus Studios’ recent MIPTV greenlight announcement of new Canadian series slated for launch in 2018/2019. Additional series renewals and greenlights for Corus’ roster of networks will be announced at a later date.

Newly greenlit returning Canadian original series include:

Backyard Builds – Season 2 (14×30)
Backyard Builds showcases the endless opportunities outdoor areas can provide. Contractor Brian McCourt and designer Sarah Keenleyside work with homeowners to extend their living area outdoors by creating one-of-a-kind structures and clever designs. Backyard Builds is produced by Frantic Films in association with Corus Studios for HGTV Canada.

Love It or List It Vancouver – Season 5 (26×60)
Love It or List It Vancouver showcases families in B.C. who are struggling with homes that no longer suit their needs. Whether they’ve outgrown the home they once loved or the luster has worn off, homeowners are faced with the dilemma of whether they should love it or list it. Each episode features interior designer Jillian Harris pitted against West Coast realtor Todd Talbot as they implement their plans to battle it out for the homeowners’ allegiance. Love It or List Vancouver is produced by Big Coat Media in association with HGTV Canada.

Property Brothers – Season 7 (18×60)
Canadians Drew and Jonathan Scott have become household names in real estate and home renovation. In Season 7, Drew and Jonathan help out couples in Calgary and Las Vegas to find, buy, and transform extreme fixer-uppers into incredible dream homes. First, real estate specialist Drew tracks down hidden gems with untapped potential, and then it’s up to identical twin brother and contractor Jonathan to expertly overhaul these ramshackle properties. Convincing homebuyers to take a radical risk is their first challenge, then they’ve got to deliver ambitious renovation projects on time and on budget. Property Brothers is produced by Cineflix in association with HGTV Canada.

Property Brothers: Buying and Selling – Season 6 (8×60)
In Property Brothers: Buying and Selling, Jonathan and Drew Scott help homeowners take their next step up the real estate ladder. Jonathan renovates the family’s home for a successful sale, while Drew hunts down the best options for their next property and oversees the selling and buying. Property Brothers: Buying and Selling is produced by Cineflix in association with HGTV Canada.

$ave My Reno – Season 2 (14×30)
Cash-conscious homeowners catch a break when Sebastian Clovis, the savvy contractor, and Sabrina Smelko, the resourceful designer, toss out overpriced reno quotes and make dreams come true. Sebastian and Sabrina save through smart spends, upcycling, DIY and putting homeowners to work. With their contagious energy, together they give homeowners the reno they want, on a budget they can afford. $ave My Reno is produced by Great Pacific Media in association with Corus Studios for HGTV Canada.

Worst to First – Season 2 (10×60)
Worst to First sees best friends, professional contractors and brothers-in-law Sebastian and Mickey take on the challenge of transforming the most undesirable house on the block into a stunning forever home. Carnival Eats – Season 5 (13×30)
Hosted by Noah Cappe, Carnival Eats gives audiences an inside look at the mouth-watering and outrageous foods famously found at fairs and carnivals, the wacky characters who create them and the culinary thrill seekers who devour and delight in them. Carnival Eats is produced by Alibi Entertainment in association with Food Network Canada.

Border Security: America’s Front Line – Season 2 (20×30)

Worst to First encourages renovation over move-in ready

There is a plethora of renovation programming available on HGTV Canada. There are Holmes’, McGillivrays, Baeumlers … heck, one Corus series, Home to Win, packs around two dozen builders and designers into it. Is there really enough room for one more series?

Yes, says HGTV Canada, with the debut of Worst to First beginning Monday, Sept. 4, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the specialty network. The channel trumpets “everyone wants a move-in ready dream home, but with soaring real estate prices in a red-hot market, it’s just not possible for most homeowners.” Cue professional contractors Sebastian Sevallo (he’s on the left) and Mickey Fabbiano—business partners, who are also best friends and family—who promise to transform a scuzzy home to the highlight of their Vancouver neighbourhoods.

Monday’s first episode catches up with Alexis and Tyler, who are currently in a one-bedroom condominium and want something more, hopefully in the Hastings Sunrise neighbourhood. That’s where, naturally, Mickey and Sebastian come in. On the couple’s wish list is an open concept, three bedroom, two bathroom abode with hardwood floors, media room, soaker tub and a gas fireplace. Easy, right? Nooooo. Not with just $1.2 million to play with. After showing them two homes way out of their price range as inspiration, Sebastian and Mickey present a fixer-upper with tons of potential.

Thankfully, each episode of Worst to First is 44 minutes long because there is a lot of work to do. After Alexis and Tyler purchase a 1950s-era place enrobed in stucco, Mickey and Sebastian get to work on the two-month job. Mickey and Sebastian are a little rough when it comes to looking and sounding natural on television but you can’t fault their skills in home building and design. The Baeumlers play up their bickering and Mike Holmes oozes knowledge; Mickey and Sebastian are like the drinking buddies you play softball with … and just happen to know the ins and outs of home renovation.

Home makeover hits light up HGTV Canada’s fall programming slate

HGTV Canada is hammering into fall with a full slate of fan-favourite programming and brand-new Canadian original series, highlighting the connections people have with the places they call home. This fall, HGTV Canada continues to showcase the ups and downs of jaw-dropping transformations, off-the-grid renovations, and intense property pursuits with beloved design, reno and real estate experts guiding homeowners along the way. Aligned with the start of its entertaining fall schedule, HGTV Canada will be available on a national free preview for the month of September.

Anchoring the fall slate is HGTV Canada’s new original series Worst to First, starting Monday, September 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Meet contractors Mickey Fabbiano and Sebastian Sevallo – best friends and family members who help 10 Vancouver families transform the most undesirable homes on the block into the envy of the neighbourhood. These shabby homes come with their challenges, but the handy duo is up for the task, turning each family’s dream into a reality in one of the hottest real estate markets in the world.

HGTV Canada’s fall lineup is filled with new and familiar faces as Canada’s beloved twins, Drew and Jonathan Scott, return with brand-new episodes of Property Brothers: Buying and Selling starting Monday, August 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Then, on Wednesday, August 30 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, the network gives audiences a taste of small-town charm with Home Town, as creative couple and Mississippi locals, Ben and Erin Napier help their community refurbish their homes, ensuring their small town’s future is as bright as its past. Plus, as previously announced, fan-favourite Sarah Richardson returns with her new Canadian original series Sarah Off The Grid and Mike Holmes’ launches his new series Holmes: Buy It Right on Sunday, September 10.

Fans will flip this fall as the Flip or Flop franchise expands in a big way. First, veteran series, Flip or Flop, returns for a new season starting Wednesday, August 30 at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, then on September 27 at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, meet family business owners, Ken and Anita Corsini, as they revitalize metro Atlanta neighbourhoods in the new series Flip or Flop Atlanta. Texas-sized flips will join the network’s schedule later this season with the premiere of Flip or Flop Fort Worth.

October brings returning seasons of makeover mavens, starting with mother-daughter duo, Mina and Karen, in Season 2 of Good Bones on Monday, October 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Restoration specialist, Nicole Curtis, is also back for a new season of rescuing run-down rejects in Rehab Addict, premiering Sunday, October 22 at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Stay tuned for remarkable reveals later this fall with the Scott brothers’ most personal project to date, Property Brothers at Home: Drew’s Honeymoon House, and a new season of Fixer Upper starring Chip and Joanna Gaines.
