“Last night’s elimination of three competitors from this year’s Canadian Idol Top 22 is disgraceful. Toronto lost half of its competitors in one night, and 75% of the eliminated competitors were from our city. These were three great young singers – any one of which would have made a fantastic Top 10 competitor.

Each year, more people come out to audition in Toronto than in any other
city. Each year, Canadian Idol judges select more people from Toronto to be in the Top 22 than any other city. But no competitor from Toronto has made it to the Top 10 since Season One, four years ago, and that’s pathetic.

I’m not really supposed to do this. I’m supposed to be impartial. But as a born and bred Torontonian, I’m fed up with the lack of attention and respect paid to the bright, young singers from Toronto. They deserve more. It should not be a disadvantage to be a Canadian Idol competitor from Toronto.

While the rest of the country is buzzing about Canadian Idol and the success of their hometown heroes, Toronto is not paying attention. Toronto is not supporting the local talent found right in its own backyard.

This isn’t about regional voting. Each competitor needs the support of the entire country to move forward in the competition. But hometown pride also plays a huge role. To know that your hometown is cheering for you makes a difference.

There are three competitors left from Toronto – and one from Hamilton – and I hope everyone in this great city of ours does all that they can to support them next week.”

now distributed to Disney Channel Japan.

This is Daniel Cook and This is Emily Yeung are expanding into Asia and adding to the list of over 75 countries where preschoolers can catch the hit show thanks to a new distribution deal with Disney Channel Japan. Beginning this fall, children all over Japan will watch a dubbed version of Daniel and Emily in the 78 episodes picked up by the Disney Channel.

This licensing agreement is the seventh international deal for This is. Currently, Daniel and Emily can be seen daily on Playhouse Disney U.S., Discovery Latin America, and Rainbow Television in Beirut. This is Daniel Cook also airs on Playhouse Disney Germany, C4U Media Co Ltd in South Korea and Australia’s public broadcaster ABC. In Canada, This Is Daniel Cook plays on Treehouse, TVO Kids, Knowledge Network, Access Alberta and SCN. This is Emily Yeung airs exclusively in Canada on the Corus Entertainment preschool channel, Treehouse.

X-Weighted season 2 airs July 5; season 3 filming now

Let the Losing Begin: X-Weighted finds 13 new stories in Toronto, Calgary and Winnipeg

Thirteen new weight-loss journeys begin this week in Toronto, Calgary and Winnipeg for participants who have signed up for the third season of Slice’s hit television series X-Weighted. The dramatic struggle between the participants’ weight and their dreams are being captured on camera between June 28, 2007 and January 26, 2008 for broadcast in Spring 2008.

While Season III filming gets underway, so does the premiere broadcast of Season II, starting Thursday, July 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT (Check local listings). The season kicks off with the story of Toronto party girl Valencia who, slapped in the face by her overweight father’s stroke, realizes she’s killing herself with obesity. Determined not to leave her two teenage boys without a parent, Valencia commits to reform.
