Space, as they used to say on “Star Trek,” is the “final frontier.” A visit to the sets of two returning Canadian sci-fi shows demonstrates that, behind the scenes, things can look very down to earth.

“Killjoys” (Friday on Space) is about a trio of inter-galactic bounty hunters: Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen), D’Avin (Luke Macfarlane) and John (Aaron Ashmore). They track down criminals throughout the solar system. Continue reading.

“The season is actually about a couple of different simultaneous stories that we’ll be tracking throughout the season. Some we’ve put in the hands of Dutch and some we’ve put in the hands of Johnny (Aaron Ashmore), and D’avin (Luke Macfarlane) is an intermediary in between. It becomes a good way to focus the team, while at the same time being realistic on the tensions and loyalty issues that can happen as teams become families.” Continue reading.

“I think what we can tease is that we learn a lot more about what a Level 6 is. That it’s not as simple and it’s not as good and evil as we originally thought. From Bridget Liszewski of The TV Junkies:

Link: Killjoys’ Michelle Lovretta on new enemies and changing team dynamics in Season 2
“Well, there were a lot of bumps for the team last year as Dutch and D’av got to know one another, and as the estranged Jaqobis bros dealt with their shit. As a result of all that bridge-water, they’re not just a kickass team this year — they’re a true family. And when a family member is missing, you shake heaven and raze earth to find them and nothing else matters until you do. THAT’s the attitude where we pick up 201. That is their mission: find D’avin. Of course once they do, the real adventure begins…” Continue reading.

From ‘Game of Thrones’ to ‘Killjoys’, Hannah John-Kamen is generating heat
Dragons just seem to keep following Hannah John-Kamen.

Or maybe it’s the other way around, and she’s the one following the dragons.

Either way, John-Kamen’s science-fiction series Killjoys is breathing more flames in Season 2, debuting Friday, July 1, across Canada on Space, as well as on Syfy in the United States. Continue reading.
