World Television Premiere: STARGATE UNIVERSE Rockets onto SPACE October 2

  • All-star cast featuring Robert Carlyle and Lou Diamond Phillips also includes Canadians Justin Louis, Alaina Huffman, Elyse Levesque and Carlo Rota

Follow your Destiny. STARGATE UNIVERSE (SGU), the highly anticipated latest installment of the STARGATE franchise, debuts in a two-hour, world television premiere Friday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. ET, exclusively on SPACE. Following their television broadcast, each of the 20, 60-minute episodes of SGU are available on demand at www.spacecast.com.

The first of several all-new shows coming to SPACE this fall, SGU is the third series in a franchise that has spawned four films, three television series, countless novels, and several comics and video games. The 1994 film that started it all, Stargate, became an instant hit grossing nearly $200 million (USD) worldwide. Three years later, Canadian Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner created the first spin off television series STARGATE SG-1.

STARGATE took SPACE viewers by storm with the hit series STARGATE SG-1. Ranking among SPACE’s top programs with viewers aged 25-54, STARGATE SG-1 thrust SPACE to become the #1 English specialty station in its time block.* Now, edgier than any STARGATE chapter before it, SGU takes the celebrated and beloved franchise to new heights leaving Earth behind.

SGU follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard the ancient ship Destiny, set on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth.

Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship’s stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board reveal the heroes and villains among them.

Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, The Full Monty) stars as Dr. Nicholas Rush, a brilliant scientific mind whose motives are not what they appear to be. The series also stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming-Na, Alaina Huffman, Louis Ferreira, David Blue, Jamil Walker Smith and Brian J. Smith. Guest stars include STARGATE franchise veterans Amanda Tapping (SANCTUARY), Michael Shanks and Gary Jones. Shot in Vancouver, SGU features Canadian actors Justin Louis, Alaina Huffman, Elyse Levesque, and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman.

STARGATE UNIVERSE is written and executive produced by Brad Wright and Robert Cooper (STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS).
