Baxter in production for Family Channel

SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON ‘BAXTER’!

  • NEW SERIES FROM SHAFTESBURY FILMS FOR COMMISSIONING BROADCASTER FAMILY CHANNEL

Shaftesbury Films, the producers of the hit comedy series Life with Derek, and Family Channel, an Astral Media Television Network, partner on the new half-hour teen comedy series Baxter. Filming of the first 13 episodes runs until March 26, 2010 in Toronto. Baxter is scheduled to air later this year on Family Channel in Canada.

Baxter is a half hour live-action comedy that follows Baxter McNab (Evan Williams, Degrassi: The Next Generation) and his friends on their journey through the unique, high-energy world that is Northern Star School of the Arts. At a school where the students will do anything they can to stand out, the stress of a math test is nothing compared to that dance solo, or music recital, or monologue, or – you get the idea. Though his stand-up comedy style might rub some teachers (and other students) the wrong way, Baxter will see that great friends are the key to survival, and that Northern Star is a crazy amazing way to spend high school. The series also stars Holly Deveaux, Kyle Mac, Brittany Bristow, Shannon Kook-Chun, Tara Joshi, and Dewshane Williams.

Baxter is created by Alex Pugsley and Daphne Ballon (Life with Derek). The series is also executive produced by Christina Jennings and Scott Gravie and is produced by Suzanne French for Shaftesbury Films.

Baxter is produced by Shaftesbury Films in association with Family Channel, and with the participation of the Canadian Television Fund, Shaw Rocket Fund and Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund. Shaftesbury Sales Company holds Canadian and International rights.

  1. This sounds exactly the same as Nickelodeon’s show Victorious: a show about a performing arts high school.

  2. Your description of Victorious sounds exactly the same as Fame: a show from 1980. It’s all about execution.

  3. sound like some school i would go to=P, ive been dancing for bout 13 years and am dedicated to it, and don’t care much for school!

  4. I actually really enjoyed the “vampire ballet music video” that’s shown on Family as a promo for the show. :) Is the girl in it actually a dancer? Her ballet technique is amazing.

The premise of the show reminds me a lot of the original Fame. I’ll probably be checking it out when it airs. :)

  5. hey, do any of you know the name of the guy who always plays the guitar with the dark brown hair?
