  • THEME: IT’S A MAN’S WORLD

2Don Cherry, one of Canada’s most popular on-air personalities, as famous for his colour commentary as his iconic colourful blazers, has been announced as this week’s guest judge on BATTLE OF THE BLADES. With just one week left before the finale, the final four pairs have their work cut out for them, especially the men, as this week is all about them. This week’s theme: “It’s a Man’s World” will include a 30-second solo by each of the men within their performance to songs chosen to reflect how they perceive their relationship with their skating partner.

Don Cherry, one of season one’s favourite guest judges, is honoured to be returning to the judging panel alongside Sandra Bezic and Jeremy Roenick this year. Cherry has entertained and enthralled Canadians with his commentary every Saturday night on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada for 31 years. This week, Cherry will bring his unique perspective on how the ex-NHL players are performing as he shares his thoughts on the remaining four pairs.

This Sunday’s performance show features the final four pairs: Shae-Lynn Bourne and Patrice Brisebois, Isabelle Brasseur and Todd Warriner, Ekaterina Gordeeva and Valeri Bure, Kyoko Ina and Kelly Chase.

The BATTLE OF THE BLADES finale weekend has a regular performance show Sunday, November 21 at 8 p.m. with the final three pairs skating. The show’s finale will air Monday, November 22 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. local time, during which time the winning pair will be announced, awarded the Crystal trophy and given the $100,000 donation to their favourite charity.

Battle of the Blades pair axed

From a media release:

JAMIE SALÉ AND THEO FLEURY ARE THE FIFTH ICED PAIR ON BATTLE OF THE BLADES

  • Isabelle Brasseur and Todd Warriner return for another week

Jamie and Theo fifth eliminated pair Nov 8 2010Though they skated to the Bee Gees Stayin’ Alive, it just wasn’t enough to keep Jamie Salé and Theo Fleury safe this week, as they became the fifth eliminated pair on BATTLE OF THE BLADES. Isabelle Brasseur and Todd Warriner, who also found themselves in the bottom two, will remain in the game for another week maintaining their chance to win a $100,000 donation to their charity of choice.

Wowing the crowds and completely getting into the character of their chosen film, Saturday Night Fever, Jamie and Theo’s routine earned them a total score of 17.1 from the judges after Sunday’s performance. This week’s judging panel: Sandra Bezic, Jeremy Roenick and guest judge Toller Cranston were clearly distraught with their decision to eliminate this pair who were obviously crowd favourites; but after two falls and a technically flawed performance, they were left with no choice. For their efforts, The Men’s Project will receive a $25,000 donation in Jamie and Theo’s honour.

With just two weeks left in the competition, the final four pairs will compete on Sunday, November 14: Shae-Lynn Bourne and Patrice Brisebois, Isabelle Brasseur and Todd Warriner, Katia Gordeeva and Valeri Bure, Kyoko Ina and Kelly Chase.
