From a media release:

Outstanding list of finalists announced for the 2011 WGC Screenwriting Awards

The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) today announced the finalists for the 15th Annual WGC Screenwriting Awards. The WGC Screenwriting Awards honours excellence in screenwriting, and will celebrate the winning words of Canada’s screenwriters on April 11 in Toronto.

This year, 150 scripts vied for the judges’ attentions. First-round judging narrowed the field to 27 finalist scripts across the Awards’ seven categories, including Movies & Mini-Series, TV Drama, TV Comedy and more. In all, 34 screenwriters are up for awards. Several special awards, including the WGC Showrunner Award, will also be handed out at the event.

Among this year’s finalists are such TV favourites as Flashpoint, Durham County, and Less Than Kind. Newcomers to the list include Rookie Blue, Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town, and the youth show Wingin’ It. The screenwriters behind several of Canada’s most celebrated films of the year fill out the movies category: included are Michael Konyves for Barney’s Version, Adriana Maggs for Grown Up Movie Star and Dennis Foon for Life, Above All.

The winners will be announced at the 2011 WGC Screenwriting Awards on Monday, April 11, 2011, at Maro in Liberty Village, Toronto.
