Baxter premieres May 24 on Family Channel

FAMILY CHANNEL GETS AN EDUCATION IN THE PERFORMING ARTS With PREMIERE OF NEW ORIGINAL SERIES, BAXTER

Astral Media’s Family Channel presents the television premiere of the music and dance-filled Canadian original series, Baxter produced by Shaftesbury Films. Following Baxter McNab (Evan Williams, Degrassi: The Next Generation) and his friends as they attend the Northern Star School of the Arts, the live-action comedy series premieres on Monday, May 24 at 4 p.m. ET/PT with two back-to-back episodes. The regular timeslot for the series is Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. ET/PT beginning May 29. For those who can’t wait, the first episode of Baxter will be available on Family OnDemand beginning May 18 and can be sampled at Family.ca from May 19.

The new season will feature thirteen one-hour episodes. Winning the hearts of CBC viewers since its series debut in 2009, BEING ERICA is also capturing audiences south of the border. Season two left Erica with no boyfriend, no job and a personal life in shambles. In season three, we find a newly single, more confident Erica on the path to forging a new identity for herself as she becomes the person she’s always wanted to be. Popular returning characters include Dr. Tom (Michael Riley), Erica’s ex-boss and new business partner Julianne (Reagan Pasternak), mother Barbara (Kathleen Laskey), father Gary (John Boylan) and sister Samantha (Joanne Douglas).

Top Chef Canada signs Mark McEwan, begins casting call

TOP CHEF CANADA SIGNS ON CULINARY EXPERT MARK McEWAN AS HEAD JUDGE

Heat season 2 Mark resizeFood Network Canada and Insight Production Company Ltd. have signed on Mark McEwan, one of Canada’s most celebrated culinary masters, as head judge for the premiere season of Top Chef Canada launching spring 2011 on Food Network. With Mark McEwan on board, the search for the country’s top culinary talent is on. The national casting call for Top Chef Canada begins today with information available at www.foodnetwork.ca/topchef.

The nation’s best and brightest up-and-coming culinary stars, aged 19 years and older, are encouraged to visit foodnetwork.ca to download the application form. In addition to the online form, applicants must create a short video of themselves in action, showing off their cooking ability and on-camera personality. Applicants will be selected to compete for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be crowned Canada’s Top Chef and a $100,000 prize.

Mark McEwan (owner of North 44, Bymark and ONE restaurants, McEwan Fine Food Store and host of Food Network’s The Heat) is a leader in the Canadian food industry and his participation as the head judge on Top Chef Canada demonstrates the high standards expected of the show’s competitors.
