Project Runway Canada set for fall

From Alliance Atlantis:

Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc., Insight Production Company Ltd. and FremantleMedia Enterprises announced that Project Runway Canada will premiere on the newly-branded network Slice(TM).

The highly-anticipated Canadian format of the Emmy-nominated U.S. series developed by Miramax and The Weinstein Company will find Canadian fashion designers competing in a number of head-to-head challenges for the chance to be discovered as the next ‘It’ Canadian designer, and is set to debut with Slice’s(TM) fall 2007 season.

As exclusive broadcaster of the U.S. and U.K versions of the series, Slice(TM) is home to the Project Runway format for Canadian viewers.

“Our viewers have become addicted to the U.S. and U.K versions of the Project Runway series, and it’s truly a thrill to partner with Insight and FremantleMedia Enterprises to welcome Project Runway Canada to Slice(TM),” says Karen Gelbart, Senior Vice President, Content, Lifestyle Channels, Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. “We see this as a tremendous opportunity to shine a spotlight on the wealth of talented designers working in Canada’s unique and successful fashion industry. And, given that the world of fashion is competitive, catty and amazingly glamorous, we have no doubt the series will create memorable personalities that will have people talking week after week.”

“Canada’s fashion industry rocks! We have every confidence that Project Runway Canada will create some well-deserved heat around the Canadian fashion industry. Insight is proud to partner with FremantleMedia Enterprises and Alliance Atlantis to put a Canadian stamp on such a fabulous and successful series,” says John Brunton, President, Insight Production Company Ltd., and Executive Producer of Project Runway Canada. “Stay tuned everyone – we have some surprises up our very fashionable sleeves!”

Lisa Honig, Vice President, Program Distribution North America, FremantleMedia Enterprises, who brokered the deal, added: “We’re really delighted to be working with Insight and Slice(TM) to bring Canada its very own version of this international smash hit show. Slice’s(TM) mandate and tone are a perfect fit for Project Runway Canada and we’re confident that this, combined with the talent of our tremendously enthusiastic production team, will ensure the series is just as big a hit locally as it has been around the world.”
