WHAT: SPACE sinks its teeth this fall into the new supernatural, vampire series Blood Ties. Based on the novels by Tanya Huff, this show revolves around private investigator Vicki Nelson, formerly a detective with the Metropolitan Toronto Police. Losing her sight due to a degenerative eye disorder, she decides to quit the force rather than accept a desk job. However, her next case turns out to be a doozy, involving vampires and the supernatural. She decides to team up with a vampire named Henry and her ex-lover Mike Celluci to battle the forces of evil both normal and paranormal. The series, produced in association with SPACE, stars Canadian actors Christina Cox as Vicki Nelson, Dylan Neal (Dawson’s Creek) as Mike Celluci and Kyle Schmid (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) as Henry Fitzroy.
WHEN: Premieres on SPACE Friday, September 14 at 9pm ET / 6pm ET with the two-hour pilot.
NOTES: The SPACE production team gets up close and personal with the cast and crew of the new series in Blood Ties: Behind the Scenes, airing Sunday, September 9 at 7:30pm ET / 4:30pm PT.
SPACE’s ongoing support of Canadian Independent productions has been a major contributor to the success of series such as The Collector, Charlie Jade, Grand Star and Tripping the Rift. Documentaries include Famous Monsters, Girly Ghosthunters, Bigfoot’s Reflection, and Shadow Hunter. SPACE is Canada’s national science fiction, science fact, speculation and fantasy channel. SPACE is truly the boutique station for all those who dare to challenge their imagination (www.spacecast.com). SPACE is owned by CTV Limited, a division of CTVglobemedia.
Remember Forever Knight, Remember Forever Knight! It’s pretty sad when Canadian tv shows have to rip off other Canadian tv shows.
rtms has clearly never read the Blood Ties books. No comparison, IMO.
Sure, the two have some very superficial plot points in common, and they are both Toronto based (why is this bad?), but there the commonalities end.
rtms can keep watching his FK DVDs (is it on DVD?) and give Blood Ties a miss. We won’t miss him.
I hope the Canadians enjoy their show as much as we have in the States. I never understood why it wasn’t aired in Canada since it was filmed there. This show is fantastic, the acting is great and the writing superb. I’m hoping the ratings going through the roof as we would all love to see more episodes.
Its great to see a female leading the action instead of following it. And look at her help, could she be any luckier?
Blood Ties is the best! – I agree with MD…
A stong female lead and a hot sexy vampire? what more could you want?! Action, love, adventure – humor? You’ll find it all here! The writing is great, the characters are fantastic! The books are great and I for one think they did a fabulous job adapting and updating them for NOW……
I hope you enjoy Blood Ties as much as we do in the states!
M.D. & KPJ are right! I can’t say enough about this show. Blood Ties is an absolutely wonderful, amazing and brilliant series. It truly has something for everyone. Very well written and acted. I strongly encourage everyone to check this out, you will not be disappointed. BTW…. Once you see the vampire, there won’t be any “turning” back!
I encourage everyone to watch this wonderful supernatural crime drama. It is not the usual Vampire story. This show has a strong female lead character, a great love triangle, crime solving and a sexy vampire! It has something for everyone. The writing and dialogue are supurb! The chemistry between the 3 lead characters is amazing and magical.
Tune in to the best supernatural show ever!
Yeah, don’t listen to rtms.
BLOOD TIES is the BEST show. I have never been addicted to a tv series before BLOOD TIES. I live in the US and we are begging LIFETIME for more seasons. This supernatural crime drama will blow you away. Blood Ties is well-written, and has the absolute best cast.
Here is a link for our “FANGS 4 MORE BLOOD TIES” campaign. http://www.myspace.com/bloodtiesfans. Check it out…we have lots of pictures. We only got the first 12 episodes so far, still going crazy waiting for the last 10 episodes of Season 1. And this is about what we are begging for in the U.S.
PLEASE PUT THE FANTASTIC CAST,CREW AND WRITERS BACK IN PRODUCTION FOR MORE 22 EPISODE SEASONS BEYOND THE ORIGINAL 22. RENEW THIS WONDERFUL CRIME SOLVING SUPERNATURAL DRAMA……..I HAVE NEVER BEEN HOOKED ON A TV SERIES BEFORE BLOOD TIES. BLOOD TIES WILL ONLY GIVE YOU MORE VIEWERS AS YOU ARE EXPANDING BEYOND THE USUAL TYPE “NORMAL” SHOWS. USING CANADIAN WRITERS/CANADIAN PRODUCTION COMPANIES AGAIN WOULD BE A GOOD MOVE TOO…THEY HELPED MAKE THIS BREAKOUT SHOW WHAT IT IS
Does anyone know how well Blood Ties did in the ratings on its premiere in Canada? I’d hate to see this show follow Painkiller Jane, having its first season be its last. The show is fantastic and we all love it. The show is well written, well acted, funny, camp, dramatic, and not your typical vampire show. I’ve never been this addicted to a show before and it would really break my heart if they (Lifetime) doesn’t order additional episodes.
Whoops, should have been don’t. Pardon my grammer.
Being blessed with seeing the eps before Canadian and other folks around the world, I have been amazed and awed by how well BLOOD TIES has been, so far. Coming off from also seeing Blade, I kept comparing it to other vamp programs. There is NO comparison.
BT is *unique*.
It’s NOT Forever Knight, it’s NOT Blade, NOT Buffy, NOT Angel, and it’s NOT Dark Shadows.
“Blood Ties” is its own *entity* and a refreshing perspective at mixing life issues and emotions with that of the supernatural. As a fussy viewer critic myself – and especially of vampire lore – as many others here have shared, I too, am usually not this addicted into watching; but there’s something magical with this series.
(That) Might have something to do with a genuinely charming vampire (Henry) who has a great sense of humor, and a strong grasp on knowing where to draw the lines on many issues. It might also have something to do with his stubborn-hearted partner (Vicki) who seems to thrive on taking the proverbial bulls by their horns and not turning back.
I had never heard of the “Blood” series books before by Tanya Huff, so finding this series on Tv was truly a wonderful surprise. BT puts a few new twists into what a vampire is and can be susceptible to. It’s highly romantic with enough campiness where and when such moments are needed.
HENRY is *WOW!!* and with Dylan, Vicki and Coreen – each has made their characters intriguing and well balanced to each other, especially in light of the quirky circumstances they often encounter. I sooooooo look forward to seeing the rest of the eps, and hope for an additional, new set of 22 episodes beyond the first set already finished.
Actually to you Americans, Blood Ties was aired here first in Canada. Just to keep you up to speed and is very popular here.Don’t know where some of get your info. But next time double check on it. Keep enjoying our show.
Actually CF, it started airing on Lifetime in the US before it aired on Citytv in Canada (premiered early March in the US versus late August in Canada). The comments you’re responding to came before the Canadian premiere.
