Bon Jovi to Rock Canadian Idol Season Finale, Sept. 11 on CTV

CTV confirmed today that Bon Jovi will perform live on the Canadian Idol season finale on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

  • Top 2 Canadian Idol Finalists travel to New York City to workshop with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora
  • Bon Jovi, Avril Lavigne and Eva Avila Guest Star in Blockbuster Season Finale

One of the world’s greatest rock bands, Bon Jovi will not only perform live on Canadian Idol, but will also mentor the lucky Top 2 who will perform from the Bon Jovi songbook in the two-hour finale. The Top 2 will jet to New York City to workshop with both Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora in advance of Canadian Idol’s final performance show airing Monday, Sept. 10 on CTV. Bon Jovi is the latest act confirmed on the impressive list of guest artists that have performed on Canadian Idol this summer. Canadian pop rock princess Avril Lavigne and Idol winner Eva Avila have already been announced as special guests for the blockbuster season finale that will see the fifth Canadian Idol crowned.

“There are few acts today that embody success and longevity in the music business like Bon Jovi,” said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. “Sharing their immeasurable experience with the Top 2 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the finalists, and gracing our stage for the finale will be an incredible thrill for our viewers.”

Bon Jovi joins an extraordinary guest line-up on Canadian Idol that has already included Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias, Queen, Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson. Still to appear in the coming weeks are Paul Anka and Kalan Porter along with additional guests to be announced soon.

With 10 studio albums, 120 million albums sold and 2,500 concerts in over 50 countries, Bon Jovi has enjoyed an incredible career that is now in its third decade. The band released their first album in 1984 and continues to produce hit after hit, more than 20 years later. Following the success of their record-breaking world tour and multi-platinum album 2005 Have A Nice Day, Bon Jovi’s latest album Lost Highway (their 10th studio release) debuted at #1 on the Canadian Nielsen Soundscan chart in June of this year. Lost Highway (Island Records/ Universal Music Canada) is now double platinum in Canada and remains at No. 3 on the Nielsen Soundscan chart in its eighth week.

Jon Bon Jovi and lead guitarist Richie Sambora will mentor the Top 2 in New York City as they prepare to perform for voters one last time with the hope of winning the competition. The two finalists will sing one Bon Jovi song each as part of a three-song repertoire to be performed in the final performance episode. The Top 2 will also perform the newest Canadian Idol single as well as a song that best represents them as an artist.

Bon Jovi will then travel to Toronto where they will electrify audiences with live performances before Canada learns the results of this season’s final vote. In addition to the return of the Canadian Idol Top 10, the jam-packed season finale also features Avril Lavigne and Eva Avila, who returns exactly one year to the stage where she was crowned the fourth Canadian Idol.
