From Pieta Woolley of the Georgia Straight:
- How do you solve a problem like Canadian reality TV?
“It has almost all the right elements. CBC’s How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?—in which starry-eyed von Trapp hopefuls vie for the role on-stage, Survivor-style—pits talented, young, handsome (to say “hot†would be heresy for the Julie Andrews role) competitors against each other and their own young aspirations.” Read more.
Wow, this review is way off. Gavin Crawford is the reason I am watching. He is enjoying himself, keeping the show moving, and putting in the most wonderful comments along the way that undercut the silliness of the whole exercise. Maybe there isn’t as much bitchiness as other reality shows, but I’m more than okay with that, especially since I am watching with my whole family and bitchiness is not something I want my kids to emulate. I am fine however if they grow up like Gavin, making witty comments and undercutting pretension at every opportunity.
