Ratings: The Listener debuts with 1.1 million

From a media release:

1.1 Million Viewers “Listen In” to the Series Premiere of THE LISTENER on CTV

  • Ranks as second highest Canadian series premiere of the year
  • #2 show of the night following SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

The series premiere of the new SPACE/CTV original series, THE LISTENER debuted #1 in its 10 p.m. timeslot in Canada last night on CTV, with a preliminary audience of 1.1 million viewers. Scheduled to follow an all-new episode of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, THE LISTENER was the second most-watched primetime program on Canadian television, following SYTYCD (1.48 million viewers). THE LISTENER debut now ranks as the second highest series premiere for an original Canadian series this season, following last September’s premiere of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA (1.3 million).

Out of simulcast with its American broadcaster NBC, the episode was also the timeslot winner for A25-54 (557,000) and A18-49 (473,000), and in the key Toronto and Vancouver markets in the same demos. THE LISTENER had more than 2.5 times the audience of THE UNUSUALS (424,000; Global/ABC) and 67% more viewers than THE NATIONAL (645,000, CBC) at 10 p.m.

The two-night, two-episode premiere of THE LISTENER continues tonight with Episode 2 at 7 p.m. ET on SPACE and at 10 p.m. ET on CTV/NBC. In “Emotional Rescue” Toby receives telepathic visions of an explosion, and is then able to save his former foster brother from an apartment fire. But with a reputation as a tweaker and cooker of crystal meth, the victim becomes the suspect.

  1. “In series-premiere news, two episodes of Canadian drama The Listener did not impress on NBC as follows:

    The Listener (NBC)
    9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.25 million (#4), A18-49: 1.5/ 4 (#3t) – series premiere
    10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.34 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 4 (#3)”

  2. all very confusing, but the show was up against the Laker game so who knows, albeit the reviews were mostly negative, the second episode was better written and much tighter. The two EMS guys are quite entertaining, Colm is the best
I love the oriental nurse, let’s see. Audiences around the world mostly respond in the positive as the season goes on.
Sometimes shows take a couple of seasons to find their feet. I really hope this one makes it.

  3. I think I’m just going to move to Canada because this is a positively brilliant show and nobody here seems to appreciate it but me.
