CTV’s Smash Hit Series SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Gets a Kick Start on Fall With Season 2 Premiere, Tuesday, August 11

As announced during last night’s MMVAs, the eagerly-awaited second season of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA jump starts CTV’s fall schedule with a four-hour two-night premiere on Tuesday, August 11 at 8 p.m. ET and Wednesday, August 12 at 8 p.m. ET. Encore episodes begin airing Sunday, August 16 on MuchMusic (visit CTV.ca and muchmusic.com to confirm local broadcast times). Premiering just one week after the season finale of this summer’s most-watched television series SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, Canadian dancers will captivate the country as they take centre stage this fall. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA was the #1 new TV show in the country in 2008/2009, with an average of 1.4 million viewers weekly.*
Airing Tuesdays and Wednesdays on CTV, the series kicks off with the hard-hitting Toronto auditions, where hopefuls showed up for SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA’s permanent judges, Jean Marc Genereux and Tré Armstrong plus returning guest judge Luther Brown, from the set of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Mary Murphy, and Blake McGrath, who puts the competitors through the paces during his much anticipated and feared boot camp. The premiere episode is followed on Wednesday with highlights from auditions in Vancouver and Saint John.
Once again featuring Canada’s most talented dancers, trained and untrained, as they compete for Canada’s votes and strive to be named Canada’s next Favourite Dancer, the Season 2 audition episode broadcast schedule unfolds as follows (all times ET; times and dates subject to change; visit ctv.ca to confirm local broadcast times):
- Tuesday, August 11 at 8 p.m. ET (two hours) – Toronto Auditions
- Wednesday, August 12 at 8 p.m. ET (two hours) – Vancouver and Saint John Auditions
- Tuesday, August 18 at 8 p.m. ET (two hours) – Montreal and Edmonton Auditions
- Wednesday, August 19 at 8 p.m. ET (two hours) – Finals Week

In its remarkable first season last fall, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA became the most-watched new program of the year, attracting more viewers than other series such as THE MENTALIST, FRINGE and 90210. Canada was captivated by the journey of its first Favourite Dancer, Nico Archambault 24, from Longueuil, Quebec, quickly making SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA the #1 new series with total viewers, but in the key demos A18-34 and A18-49 demos as well.*
The Season 2 broadcast announcement comes as Season 5 of the hit American version of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE continues to reign as the #1 series in Canada this summer.
Leah Miller returns as host for Season 2 along with an esteemed panel of Canadian experts in the world of international dance, including permanent judges Jean Marc Genereux and Tré Armstrong and alternating third judges Luther Brown and Blake McGrath. Special guest judges throughout the five-city audition tour include Stacey Tookey (Celine Dion), Sean Cheesman (Tina Turner) and Melissa Williams (Prince, George Michael) as well as, Mary Murphy, Mia Michaels and Lil C who also appear in the U.S. series.
Hoping to make it as Canada’s favourite dancer, aspiring dancers stepped into five Canadian audition cities this spring, including Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto, with two new stops in Edmonton and Saint John. During the three audition episodes, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA showcases dancers from each city as they compete to impress the panel of judges. Almost 200 competitors are invited to “Finals Week†in Toronto, where they work with some of Canada’s top choreographers. There, they test their dance skills to try and earn a spot in the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Top 20.
Chosen by the judging panel, the Top 20 dancers move forward in the competition to perform in front of Canada. The public votes for their favourites following weekly performance episodes in which competitors are assigned partners and dance styles to perform, from hip-hop, krump and house to salsa, quickstep, contemporary and jive.
