Canada has spoken. It was revealed live on CTV by host Leah Miller that after close to two million votes from across the country following Tuesday night’s performance episode, EVERETT, JAYME RAE, TARA-JEAN and VINCENT are still in the running to become Canada’s favourite dancer as EMANUEL and MELANIE were eliminated from SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA. The Top 4 dancers will hit the stage during a special two-hour performance episode on Tuesday, October 20 beginning at 8 p.m. ET on CTV, before the winner is finally revealed during the live, two-hour finale on Sunday, October 25 at 9 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local listings).
With voting based solely on individual competitors instead of couples, the Top 6 each had the opportunity to perform a solo of their choice. The performances wouldn’t change the results, and for two competitors, it would be their last chance to perform on the program. Following the solos, it was announced that MELANIE Mah, 19, a Contemporary dancer from Richmond Hill, ON and EMANUEL Sandhu, 28, a Contemporary/Ballet dancer from Vancouver, BC received the lowest number of votes and would be going home.
Tonight’s show opened with the Top 6 performing a disco routine choreographed by SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA judge Tré Armstrong that had dancers grooving to the beat of “Turn the Beat Around” by Vicki Sue Robinson. Set in a 1970s night club, the dancers bumped and hustled to the disco beat.
The Top 4 dancers will give it all they’ve got in next week’s two-hour performance episode airing Tuesday, October 20 beginning at 8 p.m. ET on CTV. In their final effort to win the country’s heart and be named Canada’s Favourite Dancer, they will perform routines in front of judges Jean Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong, Blake McGrath and Luther Brown.
Canada’s Top 4 dancers are:
EVERETT Smith, 25, a Tap dancer from Glen Morris, ON
JAYME RAE Dailey, 21, a Contemporary dancer from Montreal, QB
TARA-JEAN Popowich, 20, a Contemporary dancer from Lethbridge, AB
VINCENT Desjardins, 20, a Ballroom dancer from Trois-Rivières, QB
Throughout the two-hour performance show, the Top 4 will be performing routines by returning choreographers Stacey Tookey, Sean Cheesman, Eric Caty and Kelly Lannan, Sho-Tyme and Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin. New to the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA stage is choreographer Maria Torres, an acclaimed performer, choreographer and director who starred in Swing! on Broadway, choreographed Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams in Enchanted and has also appeared on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. The Top 4 will also perform in pairings with each other as they dance seven numbers in total, including boy/girl couples as well as performances with JAYME RAE and TARA-JEAN and EVERETT and VINCENT together. The special expanded performance episode will also feature a Top 4 cabaret group performance choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin.
