Ice Pilots NWT Prepares for Season Two Takeoff!
- Highest-Rated Canadian Series in Channel History Greenlit for Second Season
History Television announced today that the smash-hit living history series Ice Pilots NWT has been greenlit for a second, adrenaline-packed season. The extraordinary adventures of a group of elite pilots in Yellowknife have captivated Canadians, making Ice Pilots NWT History Television’s top-rated Canadian series in channel history. The second season is set to air in fall 2010.
An instant critical and ratings success, the premiere episode of Ice Pilots NWT on November 18, 2009 marked the highest audience ever for a Canadian series on History Television with 502,100 viewers (2+). The first season of Ice Pilots NWT continues to attract viewers and achieve huge audience numbers for the channel. On a weekly basis, the two Wednesday airings combined (7 and 10 pm ET/PT) average over 300,000 total viewers (2+), and also average above 140,000 in the A25-54 category and 125,000 in the younger A18-49 demographic.
Produced by Omni Film Productions for History Television, Ice Pilots NWT follows a group of pilots in Yellowknife and the extraordinary adventures of the most unorthodox airline in the Canadian North. Renegade Arctic airline Buffalo Airways defies the cold and the competition by using WWII-era propeller planes to haul vital fuel, supplies and passengers to remote outposts. Rookie pilots with nerves of steel come from across the country to Yellowknife to receive training from the very best and for the chance to earn their wings flying vintage planes originally built for war. From landing vital cargo onto airstrips at mine sites to carving out runways on frozen lakes and rocky tundra, the Ice Pilots do it all, despite frequent blizzards and breakdowns.
Ice Pilots NWT airs Wednesdays at 7 and 10 pm ET/PT on History Television. Viewers can catch the season finale on Wednesday, February 17 at 7 and 10 pm ET/PT. Specific broadcast dates and times for the second season will be announced at a later date.
