New tonight: Republic of Doyle on CBC – “The Pen is Mightier than the Doyle”

When Mal suddenly leaves town and lends Jake out to be shadowed by a pompous crime novelist looking for inspiration, Jake’s entire life, including his constant relationship woes, is put under the authorial microscope; a simple cheating spouse domestic case turns out to be something far more devious than it first appears.

  1. Strange episode.

Mal up and goes to TO for some reason, and a very likeable, more dynamic character playing the similar foil-type role for Jake gets a meatier and more interesting role than any previous guest star (or even Mal) got on previous episodes.

And just for good measure, a long lost brother shows up. Are we seeing some CBC ‘suggestions’ that accompanied the renewal?

  2. No… because the episode was written and shot last summer, and the renewal came only weeks ago.

  3. I am glad to hear that the series has been renewed. I’ve liked it very much, and I feel overall it’s a good effort. Some episodes have been just enjoyable (which is fine with me), but some have been very very strong.
I see real potential in this series.
