MTV’s very own smash-hit 1 GIRL 5 GAYS is making a big splash across North America with their nomination at the 2011 NEWNOWNEXT AWARDS! The annual award show celebrates who and what are about to hit it big. That means the most-buzzed about actors, most-obsessed about singers, and most-addictive TV shows on the brink of massive fame. And the best part is that the ultimate decision is in the hands of the fans! The controversial Canadian series with a big heart has been nominated in the TV You Betta Watch category, alongside American hits such as PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, and TOSH.O. Canadians can show their 1G5G love by voting here by Friday, Mar. 4. Then, viewers find out who comes out on top at the 2011 NEWNOWNEXT AWARDS airing Monday, Apr. 11 at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.
Since its debut in 2008, the NEWNOWNEXT AWARDS have discovered talent long before they hit the mainstream charts and earned critical acclaim. Lady Gaga gave her first televised performance at this show, a full year before she won at the MTV VMAs and eventual Emmy® Award winner TRUE BLOOD was recognized here before it won any mainstream praise. Canadians can also vote for their favourite newcomers in other categories such as Brink of Fame Music Artist, Most Addictive Reality Star, zOMG Internet Award, and the all-important Cause You’re Hot Award. 1 GIRL 5 GAYS has been a hit with both Canadian and American audiences. Since Logo began airing the MTV Canada original series south of the border in October 2010, it has become one of the network’s most-talked about shows. The series anchors Logo’s weeknight, late-night lineup where the first season increased ratings in its Midnight time slot +55% compared to the network’s Q4 2010 average for that time period. The series brings together host Aliya-Jasmine Sovani with a panel of five gay men for frank, funny, and often fierce discussions on a variety of topics. The alternating panel of gay men, chosen for their honesty, individuality, and confidence, never shy away from the outrageous or anything remotely taboo. Conversations revolve around everything from masturbation, Madonna, and matrimony to embarrassing erections, coming out, and childhood experiences.
1G5G airs Fridays at 11 p.m. ET on MTV. Catch up on past episodes at mtv.ca.
