I don’t know if there’s really been a shift away from procedurals. NCIS, The Mentalist, CSI — aren’t those shows still in the top ten most weeks? I think, in our case, we were presenting procedural cases, but from a very different, fresh perspective that resonated with people: our guys aren’t super-cops, they’re newbies, they’re making mistakes, they’re learning on the job. And they’re wonderful actors, with a great communal chemistry. So I guess I’d say: it helps to have a fresh point of view; strong, specific characters; and a fantastic cast. Read more.
