The Comedy Network Announces New Homegrown Development Slate

  • Slate includes projects from Russell Peters, Jeremy Hotz, Tim Steeves and more

From the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, The Comedy Network announced today a development slate of original programming brimming with homegrown Canadian comedic talent. The robust list of upcoming projects includes the likes of Just for Laughs featured performers and Canadian comedy heavyweights Russell Peters, Jeremy Hotz and Tim Steeves. Featuring a slew of seasoned and up-and-coming writers and producers, these new projects are the latest examples of the channel’s ongoing commitment to original Canadian production and programming.

Comedy Network executives will now work with the talent involved in developing the projects into potential pilots and/or series.

The Comedy Network’s new development slate includes (working titles):

RUSSELL PETERS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL: International comedy superstar, Russell Peters, is dreaming of a “multi-cultural, ethnically diverse, this ain’t your dad’s Christmas special”, featuring stand-up, sketch, animation and musical performances, all with the help of top international and Canadian performers.

HOTZ D.V.M: Starring Gemini Award-winning actor and Canada’s “most miserable” stand-up comic, Jeremy Hotz, this half-hour scripted series centres around a neurotic, self-obsessed man who moves back home to open his own veterinary practice and is reunited with his three closest childhood friends. International comedy award-winning Hotz has appeared on THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN and THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO numerous times and has starred in his own critically acclaimed one-hour stand up special JEREMY HOTZ: WHAT A MISERABLE SHOW THIS IS. Attached to this project are producer/director/writer Troy Miller (BORED TO DEATH, PARKS AND RECREATION) and producer Jodi Lieberman (JUST FOR LAUGHS).

THE TIM STEEVES PROJECT: A weekly comedic review of events, newsmakers and cultural trends that have both irritated and intrigued host Tim Steeves (writer, TALKING TO AMERICANS, RICK MERCER REPORT). The Gemini Award-winning international stand-up comedian takes a no holds barred, gun-slinging and sometimes acerbic look at the world from a Canadian perspective. Attached to this project are Greg Eckler (writer, THE RICK MERCER REPORT and LITTLE MOSQUE ON THE PRAIRIE) and Mark Farrell (creator, DAN FOR MAYOR; developer, CORNER GAS).

SATISFACTION: This half-hour scripted sitcom from Tim McAuliffe (writer, DAN FOR MAYOR, LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON, UP ALL NIGHT) explores the hilariously complicated relationship between a twentysomething Montreal couple and their “single guy” roommate.

SPUN OUT: SPUN OUT follows a disgraced writer who tries to turn his life around by joining a PR firm. The problem? This group of spin doctors is incapable of spinning their own lives in the right direction. Created by Brent Piaskoski (Executive Producer, THE LATEST BUZZ, RADIO FREE ROSCO), Jeff Biederman (Executive Producer, OVERRULED!, MUDPIT) and Emmy Award-winning Brian K. Roberts (Director, DAN FOR MAYOR, EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND). Should it move forward, the series will be produced by Andrew Barnsley (Producer, HOTBOX) of Project 10 Productions.
