CBC’s Culture Days bring events & stars to communities

From a media release:

CBC CELEBRATES CULTURE DAYS 2011

  • Special Programming, A Live Concert Special, Open Houses across Canada and CBC Live! Stars in Vancouver

Running from September 30 to October 2, Culture Days is a free, interactive celebration of arts and culture from coast to coast to coast. This fall, for a second year, Canadians everywhere will participate in thousands of free events that bring creators and the public together to celebrate the creative vitality of our communities. The cross-Canada celebration represents the largest-ever collective public participation campaign undertaken by the arts and cultural community in this country.

As the National Broadcast Partner of Culture Days, CBC will celebrate the art of broadcasting in its many forms – and in a variety of ways – at CBC facilities and production locations across the country, with 75th Anniversary Open Houses on Oct 1. In many locations, CBC will also provide space within its facilities for other cultural organizations to participate in Culture Days.

CBC will present a variety of Culture Days-themed multi-platform programming during the week leading up to the nationwide events, with special news & current affairs segments, regional TV specials, and will kick off Culture Days at midnight on September 30 with a network TV music special, hosted by the host of CBC Radio One’s Q, Jian Ghomeshi.

Also on September 30, CBC Live!, a kick off to Culture Days from Vancouver takes place: a star-studded lineup of CBC personalities brings the network to life for the public in a festival setting on the street in front of the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre, with an entire day of live events and broadcasts celebrating the art of broadcasting in all its forms. Activities will include Q&A sessions, ticket giveaways, live performances, interactive demonstrations, screenings, contests, concerts and live tapings, culminating with a live concert, hosted by Jian Ghomeshi and a lineup of CBC personalities.

Throughout the day, regular CBC network and local programs will present special Culture Days editions of their shows.

CBC’s 75th Anniversary Open Houses, as part of Culture Days – October 1: CBC Centres across the country will open their doors to engage the public with hands-on opportunities that explore all areas of the art of broadcasting on all platforms. Visitors will have the chance to participate in live broadcasts and studio tours, engage in conversations with staff, producers and talent, preview new shows, operate equipment, and participate in discussions about the industry.
