HBO CANADA PRESENTS THE ORIGINAL MINISERIES THE CRIMSON PETAL AND THE WHITE

  • Starring Chris O’Dowd, Romola Garai and Gillian Anderson

Greed, lust and desire in 1870’s Victorian London. HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada), debuts The Crimson Petal and The White, a four-part, one hour adaption of Michel Faber’s international best-selling novel. A Canada/UK co-production, Part One premieres Saturday, January 7 at 9 p.m. ET/MT, followed by Part Two at 10 p.m. ET/MT. Parts Three and Four debut Saturday, January 14 beginning at 9 p.m. ET/MT.

Set in 1870’s London, the psychological thriller focuses on the tale of a young prostitute, Sugar (Romola Garai), who finds her only comfort in the secret novel she is writing, in which a murderous woman gleefully enacts revenge on her clients. When she meets William Rackham (Chris O’Dowd), a prominent businessman who falls for her charms, they embark on a relationship with dangerous consequences.

The miniseries also stars Amanda Hale as Agnes Rackham, William’s delicate and disturbed wife; Mark Gatiss as Henry Rackham, William’s pious older brother; Gillian Anderson as Mrs. Castaway, the inimitable Madame running the celebrated brothel where Sugar has worked all her life; and Richard E. Grant as Doctor Curlew, Agnes’ consultant and supposed expert in cases of female hysteria, intent on meddling in the lives of others.

The Crimson Petal and the White is a Canada/UK co-production between The Movie Network, Movie Central and Cité Amerique in Canada, and BBC 2 and Origin Pictures in the UK.

All four parts will be broadcast in High Definition, and will be available on demand following their network premieres. In Eastern Canada the series will be available via HBO Canada OnLine with Rogers, Bell TV and Videotron and on demand and online in Western Canada via Movie Central On Demand.
