W5 Presents: God Save Justin Trudeau, CTV
Before his historic political ascent to becoming Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Justin Trudeau prepared for another epic battle – a 2012 charity boxing match that pitted him against then-Conservative Senator Patrick Brazeau. Premiering Saturday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV GO, and on-demand on CTV NEWS GO, W5 presents “GOD SAVE JUSTIN TRUDEAUâ€, a behind-the-scenes documentary chronicling an unguarded and determined Trudeau as he readies for the ring in a quest to raise funds for Canadian cancer foundation, Fight for the Cure. The film delivers a rare glimpse into the landscape of federal politics in Canada through a rather unique and unfiltered lens.
With screenings of the feature-length documentary in Quebec theatres in November 2014, followed by a broadcast premiere in Quebec, “GOD SAVE JUSTIN TRUDEAU†sparked debate across the province as to modern media’s influence on politics. The film also generated speculation over whether this candid view of Trudeau might help or harm his political fortunes with a federal election looming in 2015. Produced by Montréal’s Productions de la Ruelle, and the award-winning filmmaking duo Guylaine Maroist and Éric Ruel, W5 delivers an abbreviated, made-for-television cut and English Canada premiere of the documentary in this special broadcast presentation.
Pierre Trudeau was one of the most hated politicians on the Prairies and people here will not vote for any relation of his no matter what. I often listen to a call-in radio show on CJME, Regina`s talk-radio station and one day the topic of the day was Justin Trudeau–not the nicest stuff was said. I`m not meaning this to turn into a political debate, I`m just stating fact.
